New South Wales Legislative Assembly
The New South Wales Legislative Assembly is the lower of the two houses of the Parliament of New South Wales, an Australian state. The upper house is the New South Wales Legislative Council. Both the Assembly and Council sit at Parliament House in the state capital, Sydney. The Assembly is presided over by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. The Assembly has 93 members, elected by single-member constituency, which are commonly known as seats. Voting is by the optional preferential system. Members of the Legislative Assembly have the post-nominals MP after their names. From the creation of the assembly up to about 1990, the post-nominals "MLA" (Member of the Legislative Assembly) were used. Bill Crabtree
William Frederick Farrar Crabtree (31 May 1915 – 12 July 2001) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1953 until 1983 and represented the Labor Party. Born in the Sydney suburb of Marrickville, Crabtree was the son of an engineer, and was educated to intermediate level at Kogarah High School. He joined the ALP in 1931 and worked as a public servant initially for the New South Wales Government Railways. Later he served as an office-holder in the Australian Railways Union and the private secretary to Clive Evatt from 1947 until his entry into parliament. Crabtree defeated Douglas Cross the incumbent member for the seat of Kogarah, at the 1953 election. He retained the seat for the Labor Party at the next 10 elections. Lachlan was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. During the first two Parliaments (1856–1859), there was an electorate in the same area called Lachlan and Lower Darling, named after the Lachlan and Darling Rivers. Lachlan was created in 1859 and abolished in 1880, partly replaced by Forbes. In 1894 Forbes was abolished and Lachlan was recreated. Riverstone is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. It has been represented by Kevin Conolly of the Liberal Party since 2011. 1983 Maroubra State By-election
A by-election was held for the New South Wales Legislative Assembly seat of Maroubra on 22 October 1983. It was triggered by the resignation of Bill Haigh () who had been dropped as Minister for Corrective Services in October 1981. The Maroubra by-election was held the same day as the by-elections for Kogarah, Marrickville and Riverstone. Bob Carr
Robert John Carr (born 28 September 1947) is an Australian retired politician and journalist who served as the 39th Premier of New South Wales from 1995 to 2005, as the leader of the NSW Branch of the Australian Labor Party (ALP). He later entered federal politics as a New South Wales senator, and served as Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2012 to 2013. Following his departure from politics he served as the Director of the Australia-China Relations Institute (ACRI) from 2014 to 2019 at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Carr was born in Sydney and attended the University of New South Wales. Before entering politics he worked as a journalist. Carr entered the New South Wales Legislative Assembly in 1983, and the following year became a cabinet minister.
