Melton South Football and Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Panthers'', is an Australian rules football and netball club located in Melton. The football squad competes in the Ballarat Football League which is part of the Victorian Country Football League. They have cross town rivals in the Melton Football Club. History The club was formed in 1973 and commenced in the Riddell District Football League. The Bacchus March FL and the Ballarat & District FL had merged but the club with its cross town rival Melton opted to join the Riddell District Football League. In 1997, the stronger clubs ( Darley, Melton, Melton South,& Sunbury) of the Riddell District Football League were transferred to the Ballarat Football League. There have been a few great footballers to go through the club including, Sean Denham, Ben Haynes and Paul Chambers. Ballarat Football League
The Ballarat Football League (BFL) is an Australian rules football competition that operates in the Ballarat region of Victoria, Australia. The competition formed in 1893 as the Ballarat Football Association and was renamed Ballarat Football League in 1908 and was briefly known as the Ballarat-Wimmera Football League between 1934 and 1936. Overview The league features 11 senior clubs. North Ballarat City Football Club joined the league in 2008 season raising the number of teams to the present number. North Ballarat City previously played in the Bendigo Football League for the previous two seasons prior to joining. Sean Denham
Sean Denham (born 29 April 1969) is a former Australian rules footballer. Recruited from Melton South, Denham was an unheralded rover, who came to Essendon from Geelong in a swap that saw ruckman John Barnes sent the other way following the 1991 season. His style of play as a tagging run-with player, typified during the 1990s the changing face of the modern game. Despite having a small stature, Denham's tough approach and ability to verbally rile his opponent, coupled with his tagging role sparked a massive on-field rivalry with fiery Carlton rover Greg Williams during the 1990s. Popular football commentator Rex Hunt once described Denham as "The Brush" or "Dunny brush Denham" during his radio broadcasts. Paul Chambers (born 23 June 1982) is an Australian rules footballer with the Werribee Football Club in the Victorian Football League, who formerly played for the AFL's Geelong Football Club and Sydney Swans. Ben Haynes (born 27 June 1981) is an Australian rules footballer who played in the Australian Football League (AFL) for and Essendon Football Clubs and in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) for West Adelaide Football Club. He also played for Melton South Panthers. Career Haynes was rookie-listed at Richmond before his elevation to the main list for the 2000 AFL season. After making his senior debut on 16 July 2000 against Fremantle Football Club at the WACA Ground, Haynes played five games for Richmond before his delistment after the 2001 AFL season. Essendon added him to their rookie list in 2002 and elevated him to the senior list for the 2003 AFL season. Haynes played 21 games for Essendon, including finals football, and was delisted after the 2005 AFL season. The Darley Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Devils'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the Victorian town of Bacchus Marsh. The football squad competes in the Ballarat Football League. In 2017 Darley defeated Bacchus Marsh convincingly in both the first and seconds Grand Finals. History Darley Football Club was formed in 1919 when it was known as the Magpies, playing in the Melton and Bacchus Marsh District Football League where the club was successful winning nine premierships between 1934 and 1957. The club then progressed into the newly formed Bacchus Marsh Football League, and was successful with premierships in 1959 and a golden era of four consecutive premierships from 1969–1972. The Riddell District Football Netball League (RDFNL) is an Australian rules football and netball league in Victoria, Australia. The RDFNL covers towns in the Macedon Ranges and an area from Rockbank in the south to Broadford in the north. The league also runs junior competitions from Under 10 to Under 18 age groups. Brief history 1970s This decade saw Hesket club go into recess and the introduction of new clubs Craigieburn, Melton and Melton South. In 1975 the league went two divisional, With eight teams in First Division and six clubs in Second Division. Numbers were boosted by the return of Trentham and Hesket clubs. 1977 saw Broadford and a second team from Sunbury join the league.
