''Melodies of America'' (Spanish:''Melodías de América'') is a 1941 Argentinian musical comedy film directed by Eduardo Morera and starring José Mojica, Silvana Roth and June Marlowe.Melgosa p.55 It was intended as an Argentine response to the Latin-American themed films produced by Hollywood as part of the Good Neighbor policy. Synopsis A group of Argentine filmmakers struggle to make a film with a panamerican theme. They eventually manage to raise the finances for the film and hires a famous Mexican singer to star in it. On the boat down he meets and falls in love with a poor woman from Buenos Aires. Meanwhile an American actress who has failed in Hollywood attempts to get a role in the production. Eduardo Morera
Eduardo Morera (9 January 1906 – 21 January 1997) was an Argentine film director. Although his career was relatively short compared to other directors of the period, he directed 18 films between 1930 and 1943, including influential tango films such as 1937's '' Así es el tango''. Juan Carlos Altavista (January 4, 1929 in Buenos Aires – July 20, 1989) was an Argentine actor and comedian. Life Juan Carlos Altavista began his career at Teatro Infantil Labarden,Labarden children's theatre in Buenos Aires. Afterwards he learned from Narciso Ibáñez Menta, Francisco Petrone and Luis Sandrini. The character that carried him to fame, Minguito Tinguitella, a tramp driving an old dustcart, was an idea of Juan Carlos Chiappe. With beret and espadrille, he achieved radio and TV success. Nilda Elvira Vattuone (10 September 1911 – 20 December 2013), better known by her stage name Nelly Omar, was an Argentine actress and singer during the Golden Age of Argentine Cinema. Bola de Nieve (literally ''Snowball'') (11 September 1911 – 2 October 1971), born Ignacio Jacinto Villa Fernández, was a Cuban singer-pianist and songwriter. His name originates from his round, black face. Villa Fernández was born in Guanabacoa, and studied at the Mateu Conservatoire of Havana. Boxing career As a featherweight professional boxer who competed in the 1920s, he won a bronze medal in Boxing at the 1924 Summer Olympics in the featherweight division, losing against Joseph Salas in the semi-final.
