Arthur Preston Mellish
Arthur Preston Mellish (10 June 1905 – 7 February 1930) was a Canadian mathematician, known for his generalization of Barbier's theorem. Arthur Mellish received in 1928 an M.A. in mathematics from the University of British Columbia with thesis ''An illustrative example of the ellipsoid pendulum''. He died at age 24 and had no mathematical publications during his lifetime. After his death, his colleagues at Brown University examined his notes on mathematics. Jacob Tamarkin prepared a paper based upon the notes and published it in the ''Annals of Mathematics'' in 1931. In the statement of the following theorem, an oval means a closed convex curve. ''Bananas'' is a 1971 American comedy film directed by Woody Allen and starring Allen, Louise Lasser, and Carlos Montalban. Thomas Mellish (1773 – 29 July 1837 in Uxbridge, Middlesex) was an English amateur cricketer who made 52 known appearances in first-class cricket matches between 1791 and 1815. Henry Morgan Saxon Mellish (14 March 1970 – 7 March 2007), better known as Morgan Mellish, was an Australian journalist. Mellish was educated at Shore School in North Sydney (1982–1987). He then completed an economics degree at the Australian National University in Canberra and became a journalist with ''Foodweek'', the Australian food industry's trade magazine. In 1997 Mellish joined the business section of ''The Sydney Morning Herald'' as a staff writer. He moved to the ''Australian Financial Review'' in 2000, where he was employed as the financial services editor, and later became the chief economics writer based in Canberra. In 2004, he moved back to Sydney as a senior reporter covering business news. Bob Mellish
Robert Joseph Mellish, Baron Mellish, PC (3 March 1913 – 9 May 1998) was a British politician. He was a long-serving Labour Party MP of 36 years, from 1946 to 1982. He served as the Labour Chief Whip from 1969 until 1976, but in his later years he fell out with his local Constituency Labour Party which he felt had become dominated by people on the left of the Labour Party, and he eventually left the party. He became a life peer in 1985. Early life Mellish was born in Deptford to John Mellish and his wife Mary Elizabeth Carroll, the thirteenth of fourteen children. His father, a docker, had taken part in the dockers' strikes of 1899 and 1912. After he left school he worked for the Transport and General Workers' Union and when the Second World War started in 1939 he was called up and ended the war as a major in the Royal Engineers fighting the Japanese in South-East Asia. Mary Mellish
Mary Mellish (27 January 1849 – 9 January 1901), later Mary Mellish Archibald, was an educator from Prince Edward Island, best known for her long association with women's education at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick. Early life Mary Mellish was born in Pownal, Prince Edward Island, the daughter of James Lewis Mellish and Margaret Sophia Murray. She trained as a teacher at the normal school in Charlottetown. She earned her teaching licence in 1864. For the next five years she taught intermittently and worked for a time as a governess. She pursued further studies at Mount Allison Wesleyan Academy, Female Branch, in Sackville, New Brunswick. and graduated in 1867 with a Mistress of Liberal Arts diploma (MLA). Career Mellish served as teacher and Preceptress of the Mount Allison Wesleyan Female Academy, from 1869 to 1873.
