Melissa Mark-Viverito (born April 1, 1969) is an American Democratic Party (United States), Democratic politician and former speaker of the New York City Council from 2014 to 2017, as well as councilmember for the New York City's 8th City Council district, 8th district from 2006 to 2017, representing Concourse, Concourse Village, East Harlem, Highbridge, Bronx, Highbridge, Longwood, Bronx, Longwood, Mott Haven, Port Morris, Bronx, Port Morris, and Randall's Island. The Progressive Caucus of the New York City Council is a bloc of progressive New York City Councilmembers that was formed in 2009.
