Melior (cardinal)
Melior, O.S.B. Vall. (died c. 1197) was a Benedictine monk, and a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He was a native of Pisa. He served as papal legate in France for more than three years, trying to arrange a peace between Richard I and Philip II. He became a major negotiator, on the mandate of Pope Celestine III, in the divorce case between King Philip II of France and Queen Ingeborg of Denmark. Early life Melior was a monk, belonging to the Vallombrosian branch of the Benedictines. He enjoyed the academic status of ''Magister''. It is stated that he was archdeacon of Laon, based on a single reference to a Melior the archdeacon in a letter of Stephen of Tournai, abbot of S. Geneviève in Paris (1176–1192), to the archbishop of Reims. Susanne Melior
Susanne Melior (born 1 September 1958) is a German biologist and politician who served as Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 2014 until 2019. She is a member of the Social Democratic Party, part of the Party of European Socialists. Early life and career Melior undertook her secondary education at the Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi Extended Secondary School gymnasium and completed her higher education at the University of Greifswald; studying Microbiology. She was later employed at the Bad Frankenhausen District Hospital as a biologist. She also worked as a research assistant, an equal opportunities adviser at the State Parliament of Brandenburg. Melior Community Academy
Melior Community Academy is a coeducational secondary school with academy status, located in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, England. The school is sponsored by the School Partnership Trust Academies (SPTA). The school started as Thomas Sumpter School, before amalgamating with South Leys Business & Enterprise College in September 2007 to form Melior Community College. In 2011 the school was rebuilt as part of the Building Schools for the Future programme. The school was called Melior Community College until January 2013. Melior (typeface)
Hermann Zapf (; 8 November 1918 – 4 June 2015) was a German type designer and calligrapher who lived in Darmstadt, Germany. He was married to the calligrapher and typeface designer Gudrun Zapf-von Hesse. Typefaces he designed include Palatino, Optima, and Zapfino. He is considered one of the greatest type designers of all time. Early life Zapf was born in Nuremberg during turbulent times marked by the German Revolution of 1918–1919 in Munich and Berlin, the end of World War I, the exile of Kaiser Wilhelm, and the establishment of Bavaria as a free state by Kurt Eisner. In addition, the Spanish flu pandemic took hold in Europe in 1918 and 1919. Two of Zapf's siblings died of the disease. Famine later struck Germany, and Zapf's mother was grateful to send him to school in 1925, where he received daily meals in a program organized by Herbert Hoover.
