Melfort is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. The city of Melfort (population 5,992) is the largest centre in the constituency. Smaller communities in the district include the towns of Watson, Star City, Leroy, and Naicam; and the villages of Quill Lake, Spalding, Beatty, Englefeld, and Annaheim. The riding has existed since the 1912 election. History The riding initially returned primarily NDP members, starting with Arthur Thibault. Naicam is a small town in rural Saskatchewan. It is located north of the province's capital city, Regina, Saskatchewan, Regina. In 2006 the population was 690. The name of the town is a combination of Naismith and Cameron, the railway construction contractors. Utilities Naicam receives several radio stations from both Saskatoon and Regina. Watson, Saskatchewan
Watson is a town of 777 residents in the rural municipality of Lakeside, in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Watson is located on the intersection of Highway 5 and Highway 6, the Canam Highway. Watson is approximately the same distance from Saskatoon which is to the west, and Regina to the south, which gives rise to its town motto, ''Industrial Crossroads of Saskatchewan''. History Settlers began arriving in the early 1900s, many of them German American Catholics. The first post office in the area was established on April 1, 1904 and named ''Vossen'' after its postmaster, Frank J. Vossen Jr. It was changed to Watson on May 1, 1906, in advance of the village's incorporation on October 6, 1906. The village became a town on August 1, 1908. Quill Lake, Saskatchewan
Quill Lake ( 2016 population: ) is a village in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within the Rural Municipality of Lakeside No. 338 and Census Division No. 10. It is 170 km east of Saskatoon and 200 km northeast of Regina on Highway 5. The village is located just to the northwest of the Quill Lakes. The Quill Lakes wetland complex is a designated Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network site where many migrating shorebirds stop during long migrations. Because of this the village is also known by its residents as the "Goose Capital of Saskatchewan". History Quill Lake was originally established as Lally, named after a railway official of the day.
