Melbu
Melbu is a village in Hadsel Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The village is located on the island of Hadseløya on the northern shore of the Hadselfjorden. Melbu is one of two population centres on the island of Hadseløya, and it is called "The Pearl of Vesteraalen". The other being the town of Stokmarknes in the north. Melbu is host to the annual Sommer-Melbu festival. The village has a population (2018) of 2,202 which gives the village a population density of . Melbu Church is located in this village. Melbu is also a school centre in Vesterålen, and has a ferry connection to the village of Fiskebøl on the island of Austvågøya to the south via the Melbu-Fiskebøl Ferry. Melbu Church
Melbu Church ( no, Melbu kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Hadsel Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Melbu on the island of Hadseløya. It is one of the churches for the Melbu parish which is part of the Vesterålen prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. Hadsel ( sme, Válafierda) is a municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is part of the traditional district of Vesterålen. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Stokmarknes. Other villages in Hadsel include Fiskebøl, Gjerstad, Grønning, Grytting, Hanøyvika, Hennes, Kaljord, Melbu, Sanden, and Sandnes. The municipality is the southernmost municipality in the Vesterålen region. It is spread over several main islands: Hadseløya, Børøya, Hinnøya, Langøya, and Austvågøya. Neptune Herring Oil Factory
The Neptune Herring Oil Factory ( no, Neptun sildeoljefabrikk) is a former industry in the town of Melbu in Norway's Vesterålen district. It has been given cultural heritage status. The factory was set up in 1910. For a long time, production was based on herring. When herring was no longer available as raw material, the factory switched to using capelin. In the 1980s, the supply of this fish as raw material also failed, and the factory shut down in 1987. All of its equipment was sold to Morocco. During the 1900s there were many factories of this type in the Norwegian fisheries, and few of them are preserved today. Many of them, like the Neptune factory, were established at the beginning of the century and were shut down in the 1980s. Norwegian Fishing Industry Museum
The Norwegian Fishing Industry Museum ( no, Norsk fiskeindustrimuseum) is a national museum in Melbu in Vesterålen, Norway. The museum was established in the spring of 1991 and is housed in the building of the former Neptune Herring Oil Factory (''Neptun sildeoljefabrikk''). Hadselfjorden
Hadselfjorden or Hadselfjord is a fjord in Hadsel Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The fjord lies in the Vesterålen region, separating the island of Hadseløya (on the north and west side of the fjord) from the islands of Austvågøya and Hinnøya island (on the south and east side of the fjord). In the northeast, the Hadselfjorden connects with Sortlandssund strait, which separates the islands of Langøya and Hinnøya. In the southwest the fjord empties into the Norwegian Sea. Hadseløya or Hadseløy is an island in Hadsel Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located in the Vesterålen region on the north side of the Hadselfjorden. The town of Stokmarknes is situated on the northern shore of the island and the village of Melbu is on the southern coast. The island has an area of .
