Mel Thomas
Melanie Eileen Thomas (born August 26, 1985 in Cincinnati, Ohio) is an American basketball player who played for the University of Connecticut Huskies from 2004–2008. High school Thomas won many awards during her high school basketball career for Cincinnati’s Mount Notre Dame High School. As a junior, she averaged 18.3 points, 5.2 assists and 3.7 rebounds while leading Mount Notre Dame to a 23–3 mark and a regional finals appearance. As a senior, she led the Cougars to a perfect 28-0 record and a Division I Ohio State Championship. She averaged 20.4 points 5.4 assists and 4.0 rebounds, and made several All America teams. Thomas was named a WBCA All-American, and participated in the 2004 WBCA High School All-America Game. College Thomas chose UConn over schools like Duke, Ohio State, and Cincinnati. Mount Notre Dame High School
Mount Notre Dame High School (MND) is a Catholic, college-preparatory high school for young women. The school is affiliated with the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur as a part of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. History In the early 19th century, Notre Dame Academy was a day and boarding school in downtown Cincinnati. Because of the poor conditions on Sixth Street, the school transferred the boarding school to a serene perch in Reading in 1860. Three decades later, day school students joined them. The Seattle Storm are an American professional basketball team based in Seattle. The Storm competes in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) as a member club of the league's Western Conference. The team was founded by Ginger Ackerley and her husband Barry ahead of the 2000 season. Karl Smesko
Karl Wade Smesko (born October 2, 1970) is the current head coach of the Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) women's basketball team. High school Born in Bath Township, Summit County, Ohio, Smesko played point guard for Revere High School. He was considered strong, but not fast. He played well enough to garner interest from a small college in Oakland California, but he chose to attend Kent State University. College career While at Kent State, pursuing a communication degree, Smesko attempted to walk-on to the basketball team but initially was unsuccessful. He tried again as a senior, and made the team. However, he ended up leaving the team to help care for a family member. He graduated summa cum laude in 1993.
