Carl Meinhof
Carl Friedrich Michael Meinhof (23 July 1857 – 11 February 1944) was a German Linguistics, linguist and one of the first linguists to study African languages. Early years and career Meinhof was born in Barzowice, Barzwitz near Darłowo, Rügenwalde in the Province of Pomerania (1815–1945), Province of Pomerania. He studied at the University of Tübingen and at the University of Greifswald. In 1905 he became professor at the School of Oriental Studies, Berlin, School of Oriental Studies in Berlin. On 5 May 1933 he became a member of the Nazi Party. Works His most notable work was developing comparative grammar studies of the Bantu languages, building on the pioneering work of Wilhelm Heinrich Immanuel Bleek, Wilhelm Bleek. In his work, Meinhof looked at the common Bantu languages such as Swahili language, Swahili and Zulu language, Zulu to determine similarities and differences. Ulrike Marie Meinhof (7 October 1934 – 9 May 1976) was a German left-wing journalist and founding member of the Red Army Faction (RAF) in West Germany, commonly referred to in the press as the "Baader-Meinhof gang". She is the reputed author of ''The Urban Guerilla Concept'' (1971). The manifesto acknowledges the RAF's "roots in the history of the student movement"; condemns "reformism" as "a brake on the anti-capitalist struggle"; and invokes Mao Zedong to define "armed struggle" as "the highest form of Marxism-Leninism". Meinhof, who took part in the RAF's May Offensive in 1972, was arrested in June of that year and spent the rest of her life in custody, largely isolated from outside contact. In November 1974, she was sentenced to eight years in prison for attempted murder during the May 1970 escape from prison of Andreas Baader. Ulrike Hanna Meinhof is Professor in the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Southampton in Hampshire, previously having worked as a professor and Chair of Cultural Studies at the University of Bradford in West Yorkshire. Werner Meinhof
Werner Kurt Armin Meinhof (20 October 1901 – 7 February 1940) was a German art historian of the 20th century. Meinhof was born in Halle an der Saale, the son of pastor Johannes Meinhof and brother of Africanist Carl Meinhof. He studied history of art in his hometown under Paul Frankl, where he got to know the painter Walter Timmling and the future art historian Hellmuth Allwill Fritzsche. After obtaining his doctorate, Werner Meinhof served from 1928 as a research assistant at the Oldenburg state museum, and in 1936 became director of the ''Göhre'' city museum in Jena. Werner Meinhof married art historian Ingeborg Guthardt (died 1949) with whom he had two daughters, Wienke (born 1931) and Ulrike Meinhof (born 1934), future founding member of the Red Army Faction (RAF).
