Mehmed (modern Turkish: Mehmet) is the most common Bosnian and Turkish form of the Arabic name Muhammad ( ar, محمد) (''Muhammed'' and ''Muhammet'' are also used, though considerably less) and gains its significance from being the name of Muhammad, the prophet of Islam. Karamanlı or Karamani Mehmet Pasha (died May 4, 1481) was an Ottoman statesman who served as Grand Vizier from 1477 to 1481. Early years Karamani was born in Konya and was a descendant of Rumi. He traveled to Constantinople (present day Istanbul) to study in the medrese founded by Mahmud Pasha Angelovic. Later on, he worked as a teacher in the medrese.
