''Meghmallar'' ( bn, মেঘমল্লার, also known in English as Raincoat) is a 2014 Bangladeshi drama film directed by Zahidur Rahim Anjan. The film is an adaption of writer Akhtaruzzaman Elias's story titled "Raincoat". It was screened in the Discovery section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. It was screened at 51st International Film Festival of India in January 2021 in the Country in Focus section. Plot An ordinary family of a chemistry teacher at a suburban government college Nurul Huda, his wife Asma, daughter Sudha and Asma's brother Mintu goes through a life-altering experience during Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971. It happens when Mintu leaves to join the Freedom Fighters one morning. Asma secretly continues to correspond with her brother not sharing this. Shahiduzzaman Selim
Shahiduzzaman Selim (born January 5) is a Bangladeshi theatre, television and film actor. He won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actor in Negative Role for his performance in the film '' Chorabali'' (2012). He is currently the president of Actors’ Equity Bangladesh. Early life Selim studied in Tangail Bindubashini Government High School up to class two. Then he came to Dhaka and passed SSC examination from Motijheel Ideal School. He was then admitted into the department of economics of Jahangirnagar University. He joined Dhaka Theatre in 1983 while he was a university student. 2015 Toronto International Film Festival
The 40th annual Toronto International Film Festival was held from 10 to 20 September 2015. On 28 July 2015 the first wave of films to be screened at the Festival was announced. Jean-Marc Vallée's ''Demolition'' starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts was the opening night film; '' Mr. Right'' by Paco Cabezas was the closing night film. The year's edition included two new sections called Platform and Primetime. At Platform, twelve films will be screened in front of a jury, with the best film of the program winning the C$25,000 Platform Prize. Film directors Claire Denis, Jia Zhangke, and Agnieszka Holland were selected as the jurors for this section. At Primetime, six high-quality television programs will be presented at public screenings with Question and Answer sessions with show creators. 51st International Film Festival Of India
The 51st International Film Festival of India was held from 16 to 24 January 2021 in Goa. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the festival went hybrid, there was physical and virtual screening of 50 films out of 224 films across various categories. Bangladesh was country of focus in the festival with four films of the country included in 'country of focus' section. The festival highlighted autism spectrum disorder (ASD) by premiering a film by Shreedhar, ''In Our World'' in non-feature film, Indian Panorama section on 18 January 2021. Akhtaruzzaman Elias
Akhteruzzaman Elias (12 February 1943 – 4 January 1997) (Bengali: আখতারুজ্জামান ইলিয়াস) was a Bangladeshi novelist and short story writer. Despite writing only two novels, critics place Elias "in the pantheon of great Bengali novelists". Elias "emerged as a powerful short-story writer" in 1960s, and published his first novel, ''Chile Kotar Sepai'' in 1987 and his second and last ''Khowabnama'' in 1996 shortly before his death from cancer on 4 January 1997. Early life and education Elias was born at his maternal uncle's home in Gotia village in Gaibandha District. His paternal home was in Chelopara, near Bogra. K M Mosharraf Hossain (born 22 August 1971), known by his stage-name Mosharraf Karim ( bn, মোশাররফ করিম), is a Bangladeshi actor, works both in films and television.
