Meerut South Assembly constituency is one of the 403 constituencies of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, India. It is a part of the Meerut district, Meerut district and one of the five assembly constituencies in the Meerut Lok Sabha constituency. First election in this assembly constituency was held in 2012 after the "Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies Order, 2008" was passed and the constituency was constituted in 2008. The constituency is assigned identification number 49. Somendra Tomar
Somendra Tomar is an Indian politician and a member of the 17th and 18th Legislative Assembly for Uttar Pradesh, India. He represents the Meerut South constituency of Uttar Pradesh. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Political career Tomar has been a member of the 17th Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh. Since 2017, he has represented the Meerut South constituency and is a member of BJP. Tomar was awarded the Model Youth Legislative Award in the 8th Annual Convention of Indian Students' Parliament organized by M.I.T. World Peace University in Pune, on 19 January 2018. He worked as chairman in Uttar Pradesh Panchayati Raj Samiti from December 2017 to October 2019. The election to the 17th Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly was held from 11 February to 8 March 2017 in 7 phases. This election saw a voter turnout of 61.11% compared to 59.40% in the previous election. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the election by an overwhelming three-quarters majority of 325 seats despite not projecting a chief ministerial candidate before the election.
