The Medical Art Society (MAS) is a British society for doctors, dentists and veterinary surgeons who draw, paint and sculpt. Harold Gillies
Sir Harold Delf Gillies (17 June 1882 – 10 September 1960) was a New Zealand otolaryngologist and father of modern plastic surgery. Early life Gillies was born in Dunedin, New Zealand, the son of Member of Parliament in Otago, Robert Gillies. He attended Wanganui Collegiate School and studied medicine at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where despite a stiff elbow sustained sliding down the banisters at home as a child, he was an excellent sportsman. He was a golf blue in 1903, 1904 and 1905 and also a rowing blue, competing in the 1904 Boat Race. Career World War I Following the outbreak of World War I he joined the Royal Army Medical Corps. Initially posted to Wimereux, near Boulogne, he acted as medical minder to a French-American dentist, Valadier, who was not allowed to operate unsupervised but was attempting to develop jaw repair work. Leonard Hill (physiologist)
Sir Leonard Erskine Hill Fellow of the Royal Society, FRS (2 June 1866, in Bruce Castle, Tottenham – 30 March 1952, in Corton, Suffolk) was a UK, British physiologist. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1900 and was knighted in 1930. One of his sons was the epidemiologist and statistician Austin Bradford Hill. His father was George Birkbeck Norman Hill, George Birkbeck Hill, the famous scholar and commentator on the works of Samuel Johnson, who at the time of his birth was headmaster of Bruce Castle School. Education Sir Leonard Erskine Hill attended Haileybury and Imperial Service College, Haileybury College. He later received his MB from University College London, University College, London in 1890. In 1931, he received an honorary Legum Doctor, LLD from the University of Aberdeen. ''The Lancet'' is a weekly peer-reviewed general medical journal and one of the oldest of its kind. It is also the world's highest-impact academic journal. It was founded in England in 1823. The ''British Dental Journal'' is a bimonthly peer-reviewed medical journal published by Nature Research on behalf of the British Dental Association, of which it is an official journal.
