The following is a list of media in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Radio Television CBC News has a reporter based in Fort McMurray. There are no local broadcast outlets or repeaters serving Fort McMurray, with television service in the area available only via cable. CFRN-DT ( CTV) operates a rebroadcaster on channel 12 from Ashmont that provides separate commercials and local news bulletins for Fort McMurray. It is only available on cable, as that transmitter's coverage area does not reach Fort McMurray. CBXT-DT (CBC Television), CBXFT-DT (Radio-Canada) and CITV-DT (Global) are also available on cable and satellite. Fort McMurray ( ) is an urban service area in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in Alberta, Canada. It is located in northeast Alberta, in the middle of the Athabasca oil sands, surrounded by boreal forest. It has played a significant role in the development of the national petroleum industry. CHFA-FM is a Canadian radio station, which broadcasts the programming of Radio-Canada's Ici Radio-Canada Première network in Edmonton, Alberta. The station was launched in 1949 by a local non-profit consortium to bring French radio service to Edmonton, and was directly acquired by the network in 1974. The station serves the entire province of Alberta from its studios in Edmonton, although it also maintains a smaller bureau in Calgary. For most of its history, the station broadcast at 680 AM.
