Medford Township was organized in 1855, and named for Medford Colling, the son of an early settler. The list of Oklahoma Townships provides an alphabetic list of the historic civil townships of Oklahoma. On August 5, 1913, Oklahoma voters passed the Oklahoma Township Amendment, also known as State Question 58.
