Medea (TV Serial)
''Medea'' is a 2005 Dutch television serial in six episodes directed by Theo van Gogh, starring Katja Schuurman, Thijs Römer and Tara Elders. It tells the story of the daughter of a politician who tries to help her selfish boyfriend to become the prime minister of the Netherlands. The screenplay was written by Theodor Holman and is a take on Euripides' play ''Medea'', with the story moved to contemporary Dutch politics. The serial was produced by Column Film for the broadcaster AVRO. It won the Special Prize and was nominated for the Golden Calf for Best Television Drama at the 2005 Netherlands Film Festival. Theo Van Gogh (film Director)
Theodoor van Gogh (; 23 July 1957 – 2 November 2004) was a Dutch film director. He directed ''Submission (2004 film), Submission: Part 1'', a short film written by Somali writer and politician Ayaan Hirsi Ali, which criticised the treatment of women in Islam in strong terms. On 2 November 2004, he was murdered by Mohammed Bouyeri, a Islam in the Netherlands, Dutch-Moroccan Islamist who objected to the film's message. The last film Van Gogh had completed before his murder, ''06/05'', was a fictional exploration of the assassination of Dutch politician Pim Fortuyn (1948–2002). It was released posthumously in December 2004, a month after Van Gogh's death, and two years after Fortuyn's death. Monic Hendrickx (born 3 December 1966 in Sint Anthonis) is a Dutch actress. She has won several awards during her career including four Golden Calf awards for Best Actress at the Nederlands Film Festival, the Jury Award at the 2001 Newport Beach Film Festival and the Best Actress Award at the 1999 Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema. Early life Monic Hendrickx was born in 1966 in the Netherlands. At the age of three, she and her family moved to Paramaribo, Suriname.
