Medea is the second album of the Dutch symphonic/progressive metal band Ex Libris, released in 2014. It is a concept album about the Greek tragedy of Medea and her lover Jason. Ex Libris (band)
Ex Libris (Latin for from the books) is a Dutch symphonic/progressive metal band founded in 2004 by Dianne van Giersbergen and Joost van de Pas. History Formation (2003) Ex Libris formed in 2003 in the Netherlands. Operatic soprano Dianne van Giersbergen leads the band. In 2004, with the addition of guitarist Paul van den Broek and keyboardist Koen Stam, the band's name changed from Erinyen to Ex Libris. ''Drawn'' demo and debut album ''Amygdala'' (2005–2008) In 2005, they released a 4-song demo ''Drawn''. They started playing more shows and bassist Peter den Bakker joined the band while recording their debut album. ''Amygdala'' was released in 2008, featuring demo tracks from ''Drawn'', "Dawn of Sugars" and "Breath with Me". The album was well received. Symphonic Metal
Symphonic metal is a cross-generic style designation for the symphonic subsets of heavy metal music subgenres. It is used to denote any metal band that makes use of symphonic or orchestral elements. The style features the heavy drums and guitars of metal with different elements of orchestral classical music, such as symphonic instruments, choirs and sometimes a full orchestra, or just keyboard orchestration. Symphonic metal bands can feature classically trained vocalists, in which case they can be attributed nicknames such as opera metal or operatic metal. Perhaps the most pioneering and prominent examples of symphonic metal bands are Swedish band Therion, Finnish band Nightwish, Italian band Rhapsody of Fire and Dutch bands Within Temptation, The Gathering and Epica. Progressive Metal

In Greek mythology, Medea (; grc, Μήδεια, ''Mēdeia'', perhaps implying "planner / schemer") is the daughter of King Aeëtes of Colchis, a niece of Circe and the granddaughter of the sun god Helios. Medea figures in the myth of Jason and the Argonauts, appearing in Hesiod's ''Theogony'' around 700 BCE, but best known from Euripides's tragedy ''Medea'' and Apollonius of Rhodes's epic ''Argonautica''. Medea is known in most stories as a sorceress and is often depicted as a priestess of the goddess Hecate. Medea plays the archetypal role of helper-maiden, aiding Jason in his search for the Golden Fleece by using her magic to save his life out of love. A concept album is an album whose tracks hold a larger purpose or meaning collectively than they do individually. Damian Wilson
Damian Wilson (born 11 October 1969) is an English singer-songwriter and musician. Wilson works in the progressive metal genre and was the lead singer of Headspace and Threshold. He sang and toured with bands and projects for Star One, Ayreon, Landmarq, Praying Mantis and with Rick Wakeman's English Rock Ensemble. As a solo artist he has released 5 solo albums, a DVD and a retrospective compilation album. 1990 – 2000 Damian began recording music in 1991 with the band Landmarq. He featured on their debut album, ''Solitary Witness'' which was released in 1992, followed by a second album, ''Infinity Parade'' (1993) and ''The Vision Pit'' (1995).
