Medardo Rosso
Medardo Rosso (; 21 June 1858 – 31 March 1928) was an Italian sculptor. He is considered, like his contemporary and admirer Auguste Rodin, to be an artist working in a Post Impressionism, post-Impressionist style. Biography and works Rosso was born in Turin, where his father worked as a railway station inspector, and the family moved to Milan when Rosso was twelve. At the age of 24, after a spell in the army, Rosso enrolled at the Brera Academy, from which he would soon be expelled after punching a student who refused to sign a petition that Rosso had circulated demanding that live models and body parts be used for the drawing classes, which was a standard practice in Italian academies at the time. Henri Rouart
Stanislas-Henri Rouart (2 October 1833, Paris - 2 January 1912, Paris) was a French engineer, industrialist, art collector and painter. Biography His father was a wealthy manufacturer of military uniforms. He was a student at the Lycée Louis-le-Grand, where he became a friend of Edgar Degas. Later, he attended the École polytechnique (France), École Polytechnique and studied engineering, but also took art classes.. He was an artillery captain in the Franco-Prussian War, and rescued Degas during the Siege of Paris (1870-1871), Siege of Paris. Margaret Scolari Barr
Margaret Scolari Barr (1901–1987) was an art historian, art critic, educator, translator, and curator. Life Margaret Scolari Barr was born in 1901 in Rome to the Italian antiquities dealer, Virgilio Scolari and his Irish wife Mary Fitzmaurice Scolari. She attended the University of Rome from 1919-22 before moving to the United States in 1925. She taught Italian at Vassar College until 1929, where she also started her MA in art history in 1927. There she was introduced to the young art historian Alfred H. Barr, Jr. by her colleague Henry-Russell Hitchcock. At this time, she was offered a position at the Smith College Art Museum, but turned it down to move closer to Barr. In 1929, she moved to NYC where she started taking classes at New York University in art history. She married the art historian and curator Alfred Barr on 8 May 1930 in Paris.
