Mechnikov (crater)
Mechnikov is an impact crater on the far side of the Moon. It is located just to the northeast of the much larger walled plain Galois, being separated by a stretch of irregular terrain about 20–30 km in width. This is a roughly circular crater that has undergone a moderate amount of impact erosion, but is still relatively intact. Attached to the exterior along the northeast are the satellite craters Mechnikov C and Mechnikov D. There is a small crater in the western part of Mechnikov's interior floor. Odessa University
Odesa I. I. Mechnykov National University ( uk, Одеський національний університет Iмені І. І. Мечникова, translit=Odeskyi natsionalnyi universytet imeni I. I. Mechnykova), located in Odesa, Ukraine, is one of the country's major universities, named after the scientist Élie Metchnikoff (who studied immunology, microbiology, and evolutionary embryology), a Nobel prizewinner in 1908. The university was founded in 1865 by an edict of Tsar Alexander II of Russia, which reorganized the Richelieu Lyceum of Odesa into the new Imperial Novorossiya University. Mechnikov Peak () is a prominent peak, high, at the base of the spur separating Schussel Cirque and Grautskåla Cirque in the Humboldt Mountains of Queen Maud Land, Antarctica. It was discovered and plotted from air photos by the Third German Antarctic Expedition, 1938–39, and was mapped from air photos and surveys by the Sixth Norwegian Antarctic Expedition, 1956–60. Lev Mechnikov
Lev Mechnikov (French: Léon Metchnikoff; 30 May 1838 – 30 June 1888) was an anarchist geographer. Born in Saint Petersburg, Russia on May 30, 1838, he fought in Garibaldi's army and met Mikhail Bakunin in 1864. Metchnikoff lived in Geneva for ten years and Japan for two. Upon his return, he lectured on Japan and collaborated with Elisée Reclus on the ''New Universal Geography''. Metchnikoff taught statistics and comparative geography at the Academy of Neuchâtel from 1883 to 1887, when he grew ill. He died in Clarens, Switzerland, on June 30, 1888.
