Mechada
Mecheda is a town in Shahid Matangini Block in West Bengal, India. The town is the entrance point of Purba Medinipur Dist. which lies upon the South Eastern Railway Zone and in proximity to Haldia, Tamluk, Digha and Contai, Egra. Education Mecheda has a long history of education. Besides having a number of schools it has a semi-government engineering college, the College Of Engineering & Management, Kolaghat. The college was conceived and planned by Professor Shankar Sen, an educationist and a former vice chancellor of Jadavpur University, in 1998. It has a campus area of 26.925 acres (108,960 m2) and is located 57 km from Kolkata within the Kolaghat Thermal Power Plant Township, Purba Midnapur, West Bengal. Egra is a town in Purba Medinipur district in the state of West Bengal, India. It is the headquarters of the Egra subdivision. The ancient name of Egra was "Agrapattan". Contai
Contai is a coastal and subdivisional city and a municipality in Purba Medinipur district, West Bengal, India. It is the headquarters of the Contai subdivision. It is the second most populated city of the district.According to the geologists, the present geographical dimension of Contai came into existence with the great natural disaster of the third century AD (flood), which created Chilka lake out of the Chilka Bay. ''Kanthi'', that is ''Contai'', means "sand-bound reefs" or sand walls. The name ''Contai'' may thus be an English expression of the local jargon meaning "sand heaps". Digha
Digha is a seaside resort town in the state of West Bengal, India. It lies in Purba Medinipur district and at the northern end of the Bay of Bengal. It has a low gradient with a shallow sand beach. It is a popular sea resort in West Bengal. History Originally, there was a place called ''Beerkul'', where Digha lies today. This name was referred in Warren Hastings's letters (1780) as Brighton of the East. An English businessman John Frank Snaith started living here in 1923 and his writings provided a good exposure to this place. Tamluk
Tamluk () is a town and a municipality in the Indian States and territories of India, state of West Bengal. It is the headquarters of the Purba Medinipur district.
