Mean To Me (Crowded House Song)
"Mean to Me" is the debut single of rock band Crowded House, released in 1986. The single was only released as a 7" vinyl, and was released two months prior to the group's self-titled debut album, ''Crowded House'', on which the song appears. It peaked at No. 26 in Australia. N.B. The Kent Report chart was licensed by Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) between mid 1983 and 19 June 1988. At the 1986 Countdown Australian Music Awards the song was nominated for Best Debut Single. The song was often performed as the opening song for concerts, and it was most notably the first song performed at the group's final performance in 1996's Farewell to the World concert. It mentions in passing the town of Te Awamutu. The music video presents a longer intro showing the band enjoying themselves, and then playing the song in a warehouse. Kent Music Report
The Kent Music Report was a weekly record chart of Australian music singles and albums which was compiled by music enthusiast David Kent from May 1974 through to January 1999. The chart was re-branded the Australian Music Report (AMR) in July 1987. From June 1988, the Australian Recording Industry Association, which had been using the top 50 portion of the report under licence since mid-1983, chose to produce their own listing as the ARIA Charts. Before the Kent Report, ''Go-Set'' magazine published weekly Top-40 Singles from 1966, and Album charts from 1970 until the magazine's demise in August 1974. David Kent later published Australian charts from 1940 to 1973 in a retrospective fashion, using state by state chart data obtained from various Australian radio stations. Eddie Rayner
Anthony Edward Charles Rayner (born 19 November 1952) is a New Zealand musician who spent twelve years as a keyboardist in the band Split Enz. He has also played in the groups Orb, Space Waltz, Crowded House, The Makers, The Angels in 1986-1987 and 801. Rayner has released two solo albums. The first, ''Horse'', was an instrumental offering released in 1995, recorded entirely at Rayner's home studio in Melbourne, Australia. The second was entitled ''Play it Straight'', a play on a Philip Judd Split Enz song called ''Play it Strange'' that was a particular favourite of Rayner's during the mid- to late-1970s. The song was not released at the time, but was played live when Judd rejoined the band in 1977. Gary McCormick is a New Zealand poet, radio and television personality, debater and raconteur. McCormick began writing poetry in 1968. His published volumes are Gypsies (with Jon Benson, 1974), Naked and Nameless (1976), Poems for the Red Engine (1978), Poems by Request (1979), Scarlet Letters (1980), Zephyr (1982) and Lost at Sea (1995).
