Mealrigg
Mealrigg is a small settlement in the civil parish of Westnewton, close to the boundary with the civil parish of Holme St. Cuthbert in Cumbria, United Kingdom. Mealrigg is situated one mile north-west of Westnewton, a quarter-of-a-mile east of New Cowper, and half-a-mile south of Aikshaw. Other nearby settlements include Jericho, Tarns, and Langrigg. Historically, Mealrigg formed part of the township of Langrigg and Mealrigg. Etymology The name Mealrigg comes from the Old English ''middle-hrycg'', meaning a middle ridge. There are several recorded variant spellings, including Midelrig, Meldrige, Milrig, and Meldrigg. Governance Mealrigg is part of the parliamentary constituency of Workington. Langrigg
Langrigg is a hamlet in Cumbria, England. It lies to the northeast of Aspatria and south of Abbeytown, just to the southwest of Bromfield. Historically, it formed part of the Langrigg and Mealrigg township, in the Parish of Bromfield, then an independent parish from 1894 until 1934. Geography Langrigg is located along the A596 road. It is relatively low-lying, at the extremity of what was described in the late 18th century as a "dull and dreary common", although the land immediately around it is fertile. Its name, which means ''long ridge'' in the Cumbrian dialect, is derived from the ridge of land along which it is located to the east of Bromfield. A river, named Ranny Gill, flows on the eastern side of the village. The township covers an area of 865 ha and includes part of Bromfield Common. Aikshaw is a hamlet in the civil parish of Holme St. Cuthbert in Cumbria, United Kingdom. It is located approximately one-and-a-half miles north-west of the village of Westnewton, and three miles east of the village of Mawbray. Jericho is located approximately one mile to the east, with Edderside approximately a mile further to the south-east. Mealrigg is located half-a-mile to the south. Carlisle, Cumbria's county town, is located approximately twenty-two-and-a-half miles to the north-west. Westnewton, Cumbria
Westnewton is a small village and civil parish in the Allerdale district, in the county of Cumbria, England. The 2011 census had a population of 265. The village of Westnewton is situated to the north-west of the Lake District, on the relatively flat plain halfway between the Lake District hills and the Solway Firth. It is a small village located two miles north of Aspatria, on the B5301 Aspatria and Silloth road. The small hamlet of New Cowper is located one-and-a-half miles to the north-west. The landscape generally in this area is one of gently undulating fields, relatively devoid of features other than the thorn field-hedges, with shallow valleys carrying small streams, such as the Black Dub beck. Mark Ian Jenkinson (born 28 January 1982) is a British Conservative Party politician serving as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Workington since 2019.
