Mead is an unincorporated suburb and census-designated place north of Spokane, Washington, Spokane in Spokane County, Washington, Spokane County, Washington (state), Washington, United States. Named for Civil War general George Meade, this rural area is tracked by the United States Census Bureau. As of 2010, the population of Mead was 7,275. In 1900 Mead was the second stop on the Spokane Falls & Northern Railway. The community included the Cushing & Bryant general store, a blacksmith shop, a public school with approximately 60 students, a Methodist Episcopal church, and a Sunday school. Mead School District No. 354 is a public School district serving Mead, Washington, Mead and North Spokane, Washington, Spokane communities for over 100 years. Over 10,000 students attend the 15 schools in the district which consists of two high schools, an alternative high school, a Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, STEM academy, two middle schools, eight elementary schools, and the Mead Education Partnership Program at Five Mile Prairie School House. ''Myst'' is a graphic adventure/puzzle video game designed by the Miller brothers, Robyn and Rand. The Spokane Falls & Northern (SF&N) is a historic railroad that operated in northeast Washington state. The SF&N initially connected the city of Spokane (then called Spokane Falls) with the Canada–United States border at Waneta, British Columbia. Initial proposal & planning Daniel Chase Corbin had significant funds, and access to investors, gained through his experience in the building, operation, and sale of small railroads. George Gordon Meade (December 31, 1815 – November 6, 1872) was a United States Army officer and civil engineer best known for decisively defeating Confederate States Army, Confederate Full General (CSA), General Robert E. Lee at the Battle of Gettysburg in the American Civil War. He previously fought with distinction in the Second Seminole War and the Mexican–American War.
