Md. Shamsul Haque
Md. Shamsul Haque (29 January 1930 – 27 May 2005) was a Bangladesh Awami League politician and a Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Mymensingh-2 and Mymensingh-15 constituencies. He was elected to parliament from Mymensingh-11 as a Bangladesh Awami League candidate in 1991 and 1996. Shamsul Haque was awarded the Ekushey Padak posthumously for his contribution to the Bengali language movement. Background and career Shamsul Haque was born on 29 January 1930 in Tarakanda, Mymensingh. He studied in Ananda Mohan College. He was jailed for his involvement in the Bengali language movement. Mymensingh-2 is a constituency represented in the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) of Bangladesh since 2014 by Sharif Ahmed (Bangladeshi politician), Sharif Ahmed of the Awami League. Boundaries The constituency encompasses Phulpur Upazila and Tarakanda Upazila. History The constituency was created for the first general elections in newly independent Bangladesh, held in 1973. Ahead of the 2008 Bangladeshi general election, 2008 general election, the Bangladesh Election Commission, Election Commission redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the 2001 Bangladesh census. Government Ananda Mohan College is a higher secondary school and National University, Bangladesh affiliated college in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. One of the oldest educational premises in South Asia, the institute was established in 1883 by Ananda Mohan Bose as City Collegiate School during British Raj. History Anandamohan Bose, who founded the City College in 1878, decided to open a branch of it at his home town in Mymensingh. In 1883, an educational institution was established at the residence of Ananda Mohan as the City Collegiate School. Tarakanda
Tarakanda ( bn, তারাকান্দা) is an upazila of the Mymensingh District in Bangladesh. It lies on the banks of Mara Kharia river. History It is estimated that human habitation in this area began between the sixth and twelfth centuries. Tarakanda was established as a thana on 19 May 1999. In 2012, the Tarakanda Thana was upgraded into an upazila (sub-district), making it Mymensingh District's latest upazila. Prior to this, Tarakanda was a part of Phulpur Upazila.
