McNaught holds the Raith Rovers club record for the number of appearances with the club of 657 between 1941 and 1962. The McNaught Syndicate was an American newspaper syndicate founded in 1922. It was established by Virgil Venice McNitt (who gave it his name) and Charles V. McAdam. Its best known contents were the columns by Will Rogers and O. O. McIntyre, the ''Dear Abby'' letters section and comic strips, including '' Joe Palooka'' and '' Heathcliff''. It folded in September 1989. History Virgil McNitt (1881–1964) first tried his hand at publishing a magazine, the ''McNaught Magazine'', which failed. Euphemia "Betty" McNaught (October 8, 1901 – May 24, 2002) was a Canadian impressionist painter who focused primarily on landscapes and pioneer lifestyles in Alberta. In 1942, McNaught was commissioned by Canadian Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King to document the construction of the Alaska Highway. She was the founding member of the Grande Prairie Art Club and the Beaverlodge Art Club. McNaught was born in Glen Morris, Ontario, in 1901, and died at the age of 100 in Beaverlodge, Alberta. Kenneth William Kirkpatrick McNaught (1918–1997) was a Canadian historian. He is known for his 1959 biography of Co-operative Commonwealth Federation founder J. S. Woodsworth, ''A Prophet in Politics'', and his 1982 book ''The Pelican History of Canada''. McNaught was born on 10 November 1918 to a family of middle-class leftists in Toronto, Ontario. He was the grandson of the Ontario MLA William Kirkpatrick McNaught. McNaught attended Upper Canada College before receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1941 from the University of Toronto. During the Second World War, he served with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps. John McNaught (19 June 1964 – 7 June 1997) was a Scottish footballer who played as a central midfielder. Starting as a promising talent at Hamilton Academical, he moved to Chelsea in England but was released after just over a year. He revived his career at Partick Thistle, leading Hamilton to sign him again, before he was forced to retire early due to health problems, which eventually recurred leading to his death at the age of 32. Ian McNaught-Davis (30 August 1929 – 10 February 2014) was a British television presenter best known for presenting the BBC television series ''The Computer Programme'', '' Making the Most of the Micro'' and '' Micro Live'' in the 1980s. He was also a mountaineer and alpinist. He was managing director of the British subsidiary of Comshare Inc. William McNaught (Glasgow)
William McNaught (1813–1881) was a Scottish engineer, from Glasgow, who patented a compound steam engine in 1845. This was a technique of improving the efficiency of a standard simple Boulton & Watt beam engine. The engine was compounded by adding a high-pressure cylinder between the support column and the flywheel, on the side opposite the low-pressure cylinder. This improvement could be retrospectively fitted to existing engines. Family William McNaught was born on 27 May 1813 at Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, son of John McNaught, the inventor of the McNaught indicator. Engine building McNaught patented his compound steam engine in 1845 (Patent no. 11001). He relocated to Manchester in 1849. John Arthur McNaught (1892–1972) was a Scottish footballer who played as an outside right. His longest spells were at Falkirk and Kilmarnock; Record of pre-war Scottish League Players John Litster / Scottish Football Historian magazine, October 2012 he won the Scottish Cup with both clubs, being one of few players to win that trophy with two different clubs not including Rangers or Celtic.
