McMechen Lockmaster Houses On The Ohio River
The McMechen Lockmaster Houses on the Ohio River, also known as the Ohio River Lock & Dam No. 13, were a set of two historic homes located at McMechen, Marshall County, West Virginia. They were built by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1910, to house the lockmaster's family and engineer. They were set side by side and are mirror images of each other. They were 2½ stories high, with a brick first floor and aggregate stucco above in the Tudor Revival style. They feature vertical wood half-timbering, angled on the gable ends. McMechen is a city in Marshall County, West Virginia, United States, situated along the Ohio River. It is part of the Wheeling, West Virginia Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,714 at the 2020 census. History McMechen is named after William McMechen and his family, pioneer settlers. The McMechen Lockmaster Houses on the Ohio River were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. McMechen was incorporated in 1905. Marshall County is a county in the U.S. state of West Virginia. At the 2020 census, the population was 30,591. Its county seat is Moundsville. With its southern border at what would be a continuation of the Mason-Dixon line to the Ohio River, it forms the base of the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia. Tudor Revival Architecture
Tudor Revival architecture (also known as mock Tudor in the UK) first manifested itself in domestic architecture in the United Kingdom in the latter half of the 19th century. Based on revival of aspects that were perceived as Tudor architecture, in reality it usually took the style of English vernacular architecture of the Middle Ages that had survived into the Tudor period.
