Eoin McKiernan
Eoin McKiernan (10 May 1915 – 18 July 2004), was teacher and scholar in the interdisciplinary field of Irish Studies in the United States and the founder of the Irish American Cultural Institute. He is credited with leading efforts to revive and preserve Irish culture and language in the United States and he was named to the list of the 100 greatest Irish-Americans of the century by ''Irish America'' magazine. Dennis Lester McKiernan (born April 4, 1932) is an American writer best known for his high fantasy '' The Iron Tower''. His genres include high fantasy (set in various fictitious worlds), science fiction, horror fiction, and crime fiction. His primary setting, Mithgar, was originally meant to host Middle-Earth stories that were sequels to Tolkien's work. It has since grown to reflect a much broader variety of influences, including "fairy tales and Oz books and folk tales and other such stories". James Philip McKiernan (11 October 1944 – 10 August 2018) was an Irish-born Australian politician. Born in Cavan, Ireland, he was a fitter and turner before entering politics. In Australia he was a union education officer for the Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union. In 1984, he was elected to the Australian Senate as a Labor Senator for Western Australia. A one-time convenor of the Left faction, McKiernan was the Labor Caucus' returning officer for the Hawke versus Keating leadership ballot. He remained in the Senate until his retirement in 2002. Fergal Mág Tighearnán, the Third (anglicised Fergal McKiernan) was chief of the McKiernan Clan of Tullyhunco, County Cavan until his death in 1588. Catherina McKiernan (born 30 November 1969 in Cornafean, County Cavan) is a former long-distance runner from Ireland, who competed in the marathon, 10,000 metres and cross country running. The Irish name is Mág Tighearnán meaning ''the Son of Tighearnán'' and the clan or sept takes its name from one Tighearnán who lived c. 1100 AD.
