McKeon Park
McKeon Park is a baseball venue in Hyannis, Massachusetts, home to the Hyannis Harbor Hawks of the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL). The Hawks play on Judy Walden Scarafile Field located at McKeon Park. Saint John Paul II High School is located just to the west of the field in the old Barnstable High School building. Located in downtown Hyannis not far from Hyannis Harbor, the field originally served the adjacent former Barnstable High School and later Junior High School. It served as home to the Barnstable Townies Grid Club (Football) until its dissolution in 1950 at which point it became home to the Barnstable Townies Baseball Club. The field was reconstructed in the late 1970s to play host to the CCBL's Hyannis Mets franchise, which joined the league in 1976. While under construction, the team played at the new Barnstable High School field. The renovated park was slated to open for the 1978 CCBL season, but unforeseen drainage problems caused a delay. Hyannis, Massachusetts
Hyannis is the largest of the seven villages in the town of Barnstable, Massachusetts, in the United States. It is the commercial and transportation hub of Cape Cod and was designated an urban area at the 1990 census. Because of this, many refer to Hyannis as the "Capital of the Cape". Judy Walden Scarafile
Judith Walden Scarafile (born January 31, 1949) is the former president of the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL), serving from 1991 to 2015. She is featured in the ''Diamond Dreams'' exhibit of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York. A graduate of the University of Connecticut and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Scarafile joined the Cape Cod League as an official scorer while a student at Connecticut, and became publicity assistant to league executive Dick Bresciani. She soon rose to other positions in the league, including publicist, secretary, deputy commissioner, and vice president, prior to being appointed president in 1991. Under her leadership the league experienced a period of sustained development, procured dozens of major corporate sponsors, and saw hundreds of its collegiate players go on to careers in Major League Baseball. Robin Mark Ventura (born July 14, 1967) is an American former professional baseball third baseman and manager. Ventura played 16 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Chicago White Sox, New York Mets, New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers. John Francis Aylmer (January 27, 1934 – July 8, 2018) was an American politician who served in the Massachusetts Senate and later served as President of Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Early life A native of Barnstable, Massachusetts, Aylmer attended Barnstable High School where he played football and baseball, was quarterback for the school's undefeated 1951 football team, and earned seven varsity letters, graduating in 1952. The following year, he graduated from Admiral Billard Naval Academy in New London, Connecticut. Aylmer played college baseball at Massachusetts Maritime Academy and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1957. Upon graduation, he entered the US Navy and served as a first lieutenant and gunnery officer on the USS ''Mattabesset'' in the Mediterranean Sea during the 1958 Lebanon crisis. The Hyannis Harbor Hawks, formerly the Hyannis Mets, are a collegiate summer baseball team based in Hyannis, Massachusetts. The team is a member of the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL) and plays in the league's West Division. The Harbor Hawks play their home games at Judy Walden Scarafile Field at McKeon Park. The team is owned and operated by the non-profit Hyannis Athletic Association. Hyannis most recently won the CCBL championship in 1991 when they defeated the Chatham A's two games to none to win the best of three championship series.
