McKellar, Australian Capital Territory
McKellar () is a residential suburb in the Belconnen district of Canberra, located within the Australian Capital Territory, Australia. The suburb is named after Colin McKellar who was Minister for Repatriation from 1964 to 1970. The suburb name was gazetted on 15 January 1974. The streets of McKellar are named for journalists with the main street of the suburb called Dumas Street. McKellar is bounded by Ginninderra Drive, William Webb Drive, Owen Dixon Drive, and Gundaroo Drive. Suburb features McKellar features the McKellar Oval in the centre of the suburb, known as William Palmer Park, and has panoramic prospect from Mount Ainslie to Black Mountain and Mount Majura. A small football stadium known as McKellar Park, and club are in the north east of the suburb. Ginninderra Electorate
The Ginninderra electorate is one of the five electorates for the unicameral 25-member Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly. It elects five members. History It was created in 1995, when the three-electorate, Hare-Clark electoral system was first introduced for the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). Prior to 1995, a multi-member single constituency existed for the whole of the ACT. The name "Ginninderra" is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning "sparkling like the stars". It is the name given to the creek that flows through the middle of Belconnen, which was dammed to form Lake Ginninderra, the lake on which the Belconnen Town Centre is sited. Feldspars are a group of rock-forming aluminium tectosilicate minerals, also containing other cations such as sodium, calcium, potassium, or barium. Porphyry ( ) is a textural term for an igneous rock consisting of coarse-grained crystals such as feldspar or quartz dispersed in a fine-grained silicate-rich, generally aphanitic matrix or groundmass. The Legislative Assembly for the Australian Capital Territory (known in short as the ACT Legislative Assembly) is the unicameral legislature of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). It sits in the Legislative Assembly Building on Civic Square, close to the centre of the city of Canberra. McKellar Park (Canberra)
McKellar Park, formerly known as Belconnen Soccer Centre and McKellar Soccer Centre, is an association football stadium in the Canberra suburb of McKellar, in Australia. The playing surface is rectangular in shape and is used almost exclusively for association football matches. Mount Majura is a small mountain with an elevation of that is located in the northern suburbs of Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory, Australia.
