Neil McCorkell
Neil Thomas McCorkell (23 March 1912 – 28 February 2013) was an English cricketer. He was right-handed batsman who fielded as a wicket-keeper. He was born at Portsmouth, Hampshire. Debuting for Hampshire County Cricket Club in 1932, McCorkell played first-class cricket for Hampshire in two periods, from 1932 to 1939, then after World War II from 1946 to 1951. Statistically he ended his first-class career as Hampshire's most successful wicket-keeper in first-class cricket, with 677 dismissals, although Bobby Parks later overtook that total. Following his retirement he emigrated to South Africa, where he still resided until his death. In 2012, he became the 16th first-class cricketer to reach 100 years of age. David William McCorkell (born 26 February 1955) is a British businessman and Lord Lieutenant of County Antrim, the third successive generation of the McCorkell family to be appointed as one of Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenants. Early life McCorkell is the second son of Colonel Sir Michael McCorkell KCVO OBE CStJ TD JP and Lady McCorkell OBE, daughter of Lieut Colonel E. B. Booth, DSO, of Darver Castle, Dundalk, County Louth. McCorkell was born in Derry before being educated in England at Charterhouse. Career Having previously farmed and worked for the family business, Wm McCorkell & Co Ltd, who operated the McCorkell Line from 1778. Aileen Allen McCorkell, Lady McCorkell OBE ( Booth; 18 September 1921 – 25 December 2010) was the founder and first President of the British Red Cross branch in Derry. In 1972, she and her husband, Colonel Sir Michael McCorkell, hosted secret peace talks between the British Government and the Provisional IRA, whose delegation included Gerry Adams. Early life McCorkell was born on 18 September 1921 in the Indian hill station of Ootacamund, the younger daughter of Lt-Col Ernest Brabazon Booth DSO, RAMC, and his wife Marguerita Agnes, daughter of John Currie, of London. Colonel Sir Michael William McCorkell (3 May 1925 – 13 November 2006) was an Irish born soldier and British public servant, serving as Lord Lieutenant of County Londonderry for 25 years. Early life McCorkell was the son of Capt. B. F. McCorkell DL, of Templeard, Culmore, County Londonderry. His uncle, Sir Dudley McCorkell, had also been Lord Lieutenant of County Londonderry. He was born in Buncrana, Inishowen, County Donegal in 1925 and was educated at Rockport School in Holywood, County Down, and at Aldenham School. The outbreak of World War II and the subsequent curtailment of travel caused him to finish his education at Campbell College. Military career During the war, he joined the Royal Artillery as a gunner before being commissioned into the Royal Armoured Corps (RAC) Officer Cadet Training Unit (OCTU) at Sandhurst. Dudley McCorkell
Sir Dudley Evelyn Bruce McCorkell, MBE, KStJ, JP, DL, (22 February 1883 – 30 May 1960) was a Mayor of Derry (1929–35), Lord Lieutenant of County Londonderry (1957–60) and ''ex officio'' member of the Senate of Northern Ireland. Career McCorkell was educated at Shrewsbury School and Pembroke College, Cambridge University, where he won a blue for hockey; playing for two seasons. At the outbreak of World War I, McCorkell offered himself for active service but his offer was declined on medical grounds. He devoted his time to the British Red Cross Society and the Order of St. John where he served as Director for Derry and County Donegal during the war. In 1918, he was invested as an MBE for his work during the war. He was a Knight of Justice of the Order of St. John. Jenna McCorkell (born 15 September 1986) is a former figure skater from Northern Ireland. She is an eleven-time British national champion (2003–05; 2007–14) and won seven senior international medals, including gold at the Ondrej Nepela Memorial and Ice Challenge. She placed as high as eighth at the European Championships (2008) and 14th at the World Championships (2010, 2012), and competed at two Winter Olympics ( 2010, 2014). John Francis McCorkell (2 July 1918 – 29 March 1987) was an Australian rules footballer who played with the North Melbourne Football Club in the Victorian Football League, (VFL). Early life McCorkell was born in Sale, Victoria to parents Francis, a policeman, and Dora. When the family moved to North Melbourne, close to the home ground of what was to become his cherished football club later in life, he made good use of the facilities available. He attended St Josephs CBC North Melbourne between 1932 and 1935 and then St Kevin's College in 1936. In 1951 he was a member of the North Old Boys football team which won the Premiership of the Combined Catholic Old Collegians Association.
