The magazine is credited with having started the tradition of muckraking journalism (investigative journalism, investigative, watchdog, or reform journalism), and helped direct the moral compass of the day. McClure is a village in Henry County, Ohio, United States. The population was 700 at the 2020 census. History McClure was laid out in the late 1870s, and named after John McClure, an original owner of the town site. In the 1960s and the first half of the 1970s, McClure had the distinction of being the last place in Ohio with a manual telephone system. Since the installation of the first telephone system in the 1890s, by The Ohio Bell Telephone Co., residents used the same method to signal their town's operator; they turned a crank on their phone. The operator in most cases knew their voice or knew the person being called. When Ohio Bell refused to run lines to McClure's rural residents, they formed a separate company, with volunteer labor used to build lines connecting the residents. McClure is a borough in Snyder County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 889 at the 2020 census. The town is named for the 19th century Pennsylvania politician and journalist Alexander Kelly McClure. McClure owes its origin to the building of the Sunbury and Lewistown Railroad, that at one time ran through the center of town. The town was founded in 1867. The borough of McClure was established on January 1, 1967, when the residents decided to incorporate. The town was originally named Stuckton after George Stuck who owned the farm land that today is known as McClure. M'Clure Strait
The M'Clure Strait (sometimes rendered McClure Strait) is a strait on the edge of the Canadian Northwest Territories. It forms the northwestern end of the Parry Channel which extends east all the way to Baffin Bay and is thus a possible route for the Northwest Passage. The strait was named for Robert McClure, an Irish Arctic explorer serving in the Royal Navy. He was the first man to traverse the North-West Passage (by boat and sledge). The strait connects the Beaufort Sea in the west with Viscount Melville Sound in the east. It is bounded by Prince Patrick Island, Eglinton Island and Melville Island on the north and Banks Island on the south. Mount Maclure
Mount Maclure is the nearest neighbor to Mount Lyell, the highest point in Yosemite National Park. Mount Maclure is the fifth-highest mountain of Yosemite. Mount Maclure is located at the southeast end of the Cathedral Range, about northwest of Lyell. The summit is on the boundary between Madera and Tuolumne counties, which is also the boundary between the park and the Ansel Adams Wilderness. It was named in honor of William Maclure, a pioneer in American geology who produced the first geological maps of the United States.
