Alexander Keith McClung
Alexander Keith McClung (14 June 1811 – 23 March 1855) was an attorney from Vicksburg, Mississippi, who briefly served as US chargé d'affaires to Bolivia in President Zachary Taylor's administration. An " inveterate Southern duelist" nicknamed "The Black Knight of the South", he killed as many as fourteen men in duels during his life. He was also a poet. James H. Street used him as the model for the character Keith Alexander in his novel ''Tap Roots'' (1942). McClung was born in Fauquier County, Virginia, and was the nephew of United States Chief Justice John Marshall. He served as lieutenant colonel of the 1st Mississippi Regiment during the Mexican–American War. He was widely despised for his ill manners, bad credit, gambling, and drunkenness. Major McClung was serving as a public affairs officer in Al Anbar Province, Iraq when she was killed. Biography Early life Megan Malia Leilani McClung was born on April 14, 1972, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Mike and Re McClung. She was raised in Orange County, California, and graduated from Mission Viejo High School, Mission Viejo, CA in 1990. Megan became the first (or one of the first) female students to attend Admiral Farragut Academy in New Jersey, where she completed a one year course prior to entering the United States Naval Academy. She graduated from the Naval Academy and was commissioned in 1995. Her family had a history of military service. Edmonton-McClung is a provincial electoral district in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The district was created in 1993 and is named after Nellie McClung. The current MLA is Lorne Dach of the NDP, who was first elected in 2015. History The electoral district was created in the 1993 boundary redistribution out of the southern portion of Edmonton-Meadowlark. The district underwent minor changes in 1997 and 2004 and changed significantly in the 2010 boundary redistribution when the portions of the district to the south and east of Anthony Henday drive were put in the new electoral district of Edmonton-South West. Tom McClung
Tom McClung (April 4, 1957 – May 14, 2017) was an American jazz pianist and composer. Career McClung released several jazz albums, both as a leader and as a sideman to other artists. He played and recorded with musicians such as Archie Shepp, Yusef Lateef, and Marion Brown. He spent years residing, performing, and recording music with other artists in Paris. Beginning in 1996, he toured and recorded internationally as a member of the Archie Shepp quartet. Their recording, ''Gemini'', features two McClung originals and a guest appearance by rapper Chuck D of Public Enemy. McClung's solo piano recording ''Declassified'' (Blang Music, 2007) features arrangements and re-interpretations of classical composers. In 2008 he composed and performed the music for the film ''D'un mur l'autre - de Berlin à Ceuta'' by Patric Jean. Death McClung died of cancer in Moulins-la-Marche, France, at the age of 60. Nellie McClung
Nellie Letitia McClung (; 20 October 18731 September 1951) was a Canadian author, politician, and social activist, who is regarded as one of Canada's most prominent suffragists. She began her career in writing with the 1908 book ''Sowing Seeds in Danny'', and would eventually publish sixteen books, including two autobiographies. She played a leading role in the women's suffrage movement in Canada, helping to grant women the vote in Alberta and Manitoba in 1916. McClung was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in 1921, where she served until 1926. As a member of the Famous Five, she was one of five women who took the Persons Case first to the Supreme Court of Canada, and then to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, for the right of women to serve in the Senate of Canada. Matthew McClung
Matthew Henry McClung Jr. (December 1, 1868 – March 3, 1908), sometimes referred to as Dibby McClung, was an American college football player, coach and official. Born into a powerful southern family, McClung was raised in Memphis, Tennessee until he was accepted into Lehigh University. Immediately establishing himself as a skilled sportsman, McClung participated on both the school's football and baseball teams. He served as captain of the former in 1892 and is credited with turning it into one of the school's best ever football squads. McClung graduated from Lehigh in 1893 with degrees in metallurgy and mining engineering. After graduating, McClung took a position as the coach of the Naval Academy football team. He served for one season, leading the team to a 5-2 record against a mediocre schedule. Following the season, he started his career as a college football referee which would span twelve years. Charles McClung McGhee
Charles McClung McGhee (January 23, 1828 – May 5, 1907) was an American industrialist and financier, active primarily in Knoxville, Tennessee, in the latter half of the nineteenth century. As director of the East Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia Railway (ETV&G), McGhee was responsible for much of the railroad construction that took place in the East Tennessee area in the 1870s and 1880s. His position with the railroad also gave him access to northern capital markets, which he used to help finance dozens of companies in and around Knoxville.
