McAdoo, Pennsylvania
McAdoo is a borough and coal town in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, United States, south of Hazleton and seven miles north of Tamaqua. McAdoo contains the picturesque Silver Brook Meadow. In the past, anthracite coal mining and a shirt factory, the McAdoo Manufacturing Company, provided gainful employment to the populace. The population was 2,477 at the 2020 census. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of , all land. McAdoo's elevation is 1700 feet above sea level. It is on the crest of Broad Mountain and straddles the divide between the Delaware and Susquehanna watersheds. Pennsylvania Route 309 (Kennedy Drive) is the main north-to-south thoroughfare. Interstate 81 runs a short distance west of town and parallel to PA 309. The two routes have an access highway connecting them just south of McAdoo at exit 138 of I-81. McAdoo, Texas
McAdoo is an unincorporated community in northwestern Dickens County, Texas, United States. History McAdoo is named for the former United States Secretary of the Treasury William Gibbs McAdoo, son-in-law of U.S. President Woodrow Wilson. The Texas politician, journalist, and attorney Marshall Formby was reared in McAdoo and is interred there at McAdoo Cemetery. Formby's nephew, Clint Formby, who was also reared in McAdoo, maintained the longest-running radio broadcast by a single host in the United States. Education The McAdoo school was consolidated with the Spur Independent School District in 1985. The former McAdoo Independent School District was disestablished on July 1, 1985. Economy Wind energy Invenergy LLC constructed a 150 MW wind power plant near this community. The project consists of 100 GE 1.5 MW wind turbines and came online in late summer/early fall 2008.
