Ben McAdoo
Benjamin Lee McAdoo (born July 9, 1977) is an American football coach who is the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League (NFL). He previously served as a consultant for the Dallas Cowboys in 2021 and quarterbacks coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020. McAdoo was most notably the head coach of the New York Giants from 2016 to 2017, after serving as their offensive coordinator the previous two years under former head coach Tom Coughlin. He was fired from that position on December 4, 2017 following a 2–10 start, along with benching longtime starting quarterback Eli Manning. At the time of his termination, his 28 regular season games were the fewest by a Giants coach since 1930. Robert Allen McAdoo Jr. ( ; born September 25, 1951) is an American former professional basketball player and coach. He played 14 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA), where he was a five-time NBA All-Star and named the NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 1975. He won two NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers during their Showtime era in the 1980s. In 2000, McAdoo was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. He was named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in 2021. McAdoo played at the center for the majority of his career. In his 21-season playing career, he spent 14 seasons in the NBA and his final seven in the Lega Basket Serie A in Italy. Harriette Pipes McAdoo (March 15, 1940 – December 21, 2009) was an American sociologist and a distinguished professor at Michigan State University. She and her husband, John Lewis McAdoo, engaged in research concerning African-American families. She was the author of a well-regarded anthology, ''Black Families''. Early life McAdoo was the first of three children born to William Harrison Pipes and Anne Howard Russell Pipes. She was born in the infirmary of Fort Valley State College. William Pipes taught at Fort Valley State and several other colleges, was president of Alcorn College and became the first African-American professor at Michigan State University. John David McAdoo
John David McAdoo (April 4, 1824 – June 16, 1883) was a Confederate general during the American Civil War and a justice of the Texas Supreme Court. Born in Tennessee, he graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1848 and passed the bar. He married in 1852, and would become the father four children. Moving to Texas in 1854, he continued to practice law and also owned a plantation. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he served as an officer in the 20th Texas Infantry. McAdoo had become a staff officer by 1863, and shortly thereafter was made an assistant adjutant general for state troops. The following year he was promoted to brigadier general and was tasked with defending the frontier from Indian attacks and pursuing army deserters. At war's the end, he became an associate justice of the Texas Supreme Court at the request of governor Edmund J. Davis. Orpheus Myron McAdoo (4 January 1858 – 17 July 1900) was an American singer and minstrel show impresario. He toured extensively in Britain, South Africa and Australia, first with Frederick Loudin's Jubilee Singers and then with his own minstrel companies. Early years Orpheus McAdoo was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, on 4 January 1858. He was the oldest child of slave parents. His mother was the only slave on the estate who could read. The family occupied a two-room cottage, presumably since they had higher status than most of the slaves on the plantation. McAdoo attended the Hampton Institute, graduating in 1876. Tullie McAdoo (November 24, 1884 – June 16, 1961) was an American baseball first baseman in the Negro leagues. He played from 1908 to 1924 with several teams, playing mostly with the St. Louis Giants. McAdoo played the first part of the 1910 season for the Oklahoma Monarchs, however he and two other players, third baseman J. Norman and outfielder D. Williams, were given unconditional releases from their contracts when they broke club rules by playing a morning baseball game for the Kansas City Royal Giants on the morning of July 4, 1910. The afternoon game was delayed due to having to wait for the three players to arrive. By the end of the month, McAdoo was playing with the Kansas City Royal Giants. Annie Florence Violet McAdoo (1900 -22 November 1961) was an Ulster born watercolour and landscape painter, a graduate from the Royal College of Art, a one time secretary of the Ulster Academy of Arts, and a time served educator. Biography McAdoo was born in Cookstown, County Tyrone in 1900, the only daughter of Hugh Weir McAdoo, a draper, and his wife Marion Jones. McAdoo gained a general education at the Ladies' School in Cookstown. She received an art education at the Belfast School of Art, before graduating from the Royal College of Art in 1927. McAdoo returned to Northern Ireland where she taught art for many years at Princess Gardens School in South Belfast until her retirement.
