Mbah Maridjan
Mas Penewu Surakso Hargo, better known as Mbah Maridjan ("Grandfather Maridjan") (5 February 1927? – 26 October 2010) was the spiritual guardian or "gatekeeper" of the Indonesian volcano Mount Merapi. His birthplace was in the mountainside hamlet (Javanese language-'' dukuh'') of Kinahrejo, Umbulharjo Village, Cangkringan District, of the Sleman Regency, on the island of Java in Indonesia. He was killed at the age of 83 by a pyroclastic flow that destroyed his home in the village of Kinahrejo during the 2010 eruption of Mount Merapi. Life Maridjan was the son of the previous guardian, Mbah Hargo. He was appointed to the palace staff of the Sultan of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX, in 1970 and was given the title of Raden Ngabehi Surokso Hargo. He replaced his father as guardian in 1982. Sleman Regency
Sleman Regency () is an Indonesian regency ( id, Kabupaten) on the island of Java. Hamengkubuwono ( jv, ꦲꦩꦼꦁꦑꦸꦨꦮꦟ) is the current dynasty, ruling royal house of the Yogyakarta Sultanate in the Special Region of Yogyakarta of Indonesia. ''Pikiran Rakyat'' ( Indonesian: ''People's Thought'') is a daily newspaper published in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Its circulation covers West Java and Banten Province. History ''Pikiran Rakyat'' was first published on 30 May 1950 by director and editor-in-chief Djamal Ali and A.Z. Palindih and an editor named Indra Soemarsono joined the newspaper in the early 1950s. It was published by Bandung N.V., located on what is now called Jalan Asia Afrika in Bandung. Its motto was ''Mengadjak Pembatja Berpikir Kritis'' (Indonesian: "Invites Readers to Think Critically"). Politically speaking, the newspaper had a left nationalist stance, but it wasn't affiliated with any political party. There were various other newspapers published under this name in Indonesia. Sri Sultan Hamengkubawono X (Hanacaraka: , also spelled as Hamengkubawana X, often abbreviated as HB X; born Bendara Raden Mas Herjuno Darpito, 2 April 1946) is the Sultan of the historic Yogyakarta Sultanate in Indonesia and is currently also the Governor of the modern Yogyakarta Special Region (). Hamengkubawono X succeeded his father, Hamengkubuwono IX as the Sultan of Yogyakarta when Hamengkubuwono IX died on 3 October 1988. Hamengkubuwono X was formally installed as Sultan on 7 March 1989.
