City Of Ballarat
The City of Ballarat is a local government area in the west of the state of Victoria, Australia. It covers an area of and, in June 2018, had a population of 107,325. Estimated resident population, 30 June 2018. It is primarily urban with the vast majority of its population living in the Greater Ballarat urban area, while other significant settlements within the LGA include Buninyong, Waubra, Learmonth and Addington. It was formed in 1994 from the amalgamation of the City of Ballarat, Shire of Ballarat, Borough of Sebastopol and parts of the Shire of Bungaree, Shire of Buninyong, Shire of Grenville and Shire of Ripon. The City is governed and administered by the Ballarat City Council; its seat of local government and administrative centre is located at the council headquarters in Ballarat, it also has a service centre located in Buninyong. Richard Pearse (mayor)
Richard William Pearse (3 December 187729 July 1953) was a New Zealand farmer and inventor who performed pioneering aviation experiments. Witnesses interviewed many years afterward describe observing Pearse flying and landing a powered heavier-than-air machine on 31 March 1903, nine months before the Wright brothers flew. Ambiguous statements made by Pearse himself make it difficult to date the aviation experiments with certainty. In a newspaper interview in 1909, with respect to inventing a flying machine, he said "I did not attempt anything practical with the idea until 1904". Biographer Gordon Ogilvie credits Pearse with "several far-sighted concepts: a monoplane configuration, wing flaps and rear elevator, tricycle undercarriage with steerable nosewheel, and a propeller with variable-pitch blades." Henry John Heinz III (October 23, 1938 – April 4, 1991) was an American businessman and politician who served as a United States Senate, United States senator from Pennsylvania from 1977 until Merion air disaster, his death in 1991. An heir to the Heinz family fortune, Heinz entered politics in 1971 when he won a special election to replace Robert J. Corbett, Robert Corbett to represent Pennsylvania's 18th congressional district. William Little (Australian Poet)
William Little (1839–1916) was an Australian politician and poet. Biography Early life William Little was born on 7 February 1839 in Cumberland, Cumbria, England. He emigrated to Australia with his family in 1851, arriving at Corio Bay when he was twelve years old. Two years later, at the age of fourteen, he got his first job as a messenger in the Geelong Customs House in Geelong and later worked as a clerk for Mr James Oddie. He graduated from the University of Melbourne. Career From 1880 onwards, he worked as an auctioneer, a real estate agent, and an insurance and finance agent in Ballarat. Additionally, he served as a Justice of the Peace. He then served as a City Councillor from 1883 to 1892 and as Mayor of Ballarat from 1889 to 1891. As Mayor, on Arbour Day 1890, he added 1,250 trees to Victoria Park.
