Maylands, South Australia
Maylands is a suburb of Adelaide located within the City of Norwood Payneham St Peters, and bounded by the main roads Portrush Road and Magill Road. History Maylands was named by William Wadham (who married Jane Cooper circa 1852 in Adelaide) and Luke M Cullen, early settlers who sold the land that made up the original town in 1876. There is a Mayland in the English county of Essex from whence the Cooper family emigrated. Maylands consists of mostly medium density residential properties, predominantly in an east–west elevation with most streets in the suburb oriented north–south. Many of its houses having been built in the late 19th century and early 20th century, there are South Australian examples of colonial, Federation and some art deco architecture. Unlike Stepney, to Maylands' west, the dwellings are usually larger with some remaining homes attached to small market gardens. Electoral District Of Dunstan
Dunstan is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly, covering the inner eastern suburbs of Beulah Park, College Park, Evandale, Firle, Hackney, Joslin, Kensington, Kensington Park, Kensington Gardens, Kent Town, Marden, Maylands, Norwood, Payneham, Payneham South, Royston Park, St Morris, St Peters, Stepney, and Trinity Gardens. The electorate was created in the 2012 redistribution of electoral boundaries. It was essentially a reconfigured version of Norwood, with the electoral boundaries remaining unchanged. Norwood, South Australia
Norwood is a suburb of Adelaide, about east of the Adelaide city centre. The suburb is in the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters, whose predecessor was the oldest South Australian local government municipality. History Before British colonisation of South Australia and subsequent European settlement, Norwood was inhabited by one of the groups who later collectively became known as the Kaurna peoples. Early settler Edward Stephens, who arrived in the colony in 1839, wrote: "Norwood and Kent Town were unknown then. Beulah Park, South Australia
Beulah Park is a suburb of Adelaide, South Australia in the City of Burnside. The suburb was established in 1941 when the name Beulah Park was transferred to a collection of land allotments. Clayton Wesley Uniting Church, on the north-east corner of Portrush Road and The Parade, Adelaide, The Parade, with its tall church spire, spire, is visible from Norwood, South Australia, Norwood down most of the length of The Parade from the west. This building was opened in May 1883, although an earlier building (still behind the present church, now the Lecture Hall) was built in 1856. The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters is a metropolitan local government area of South Australia. It covers the inner eastern suburbs of Adelaide. Maylandsea
Maylandsea, and the adjacent Mayland, are villages on the Dengie Peninsula in the English county of Essex. They are part of the Althorne ward of the Maldon district, and have a parish council that covers both villages. Governance Mayland is an electoral ward in the area involved. The total population at the 2011 Census was 4,360. Religious sites The local parish church is St Barnabas, which is in the Diocese of Chelmsford.
