Mayhem (band)
Mayhem is a Norwegian black metal band formed in Langhus in 1984. They were one of the founders of the Norwegian black metal scene and their music has strongly influenced the black metal genre. Mayhem's early career was highly controversial, primarily due to their notorious live performances, the 1991 suicide of vocalist Per Yngve Ohlin ("Dead") and the 1993 murder of guitarist Øystein Aarseth ("Euronymous") by former member Varg Vikernes ("Count Grishnackh") of Burzum. The group released a demo and an EP that were highly influential, and amassed a loyal following through sporadic and notorious live performances, attracting further attention through their ties to the string of Norwegian church burnings and the incidents of violence surrounding them. Mayhem disbanded after Aarseth's murder, shortly before the release of their debut album, ''De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas'', regarded as a classic of the black metal genre. Surviving former members Jan Axel Blomberg ("Hellhammer"), ...

Wolf's Lair Abyss
''Wolf's Lair Abyss'' is an EP by the Norwegian black metal band Mayhem. According to the band's website, it is the first part of ''Grand Declaration of War''. The main riff of the last track, "Symbols of Bloodswords", is used in "A Grand Declaration of War" and "View from Nihil (Part II)". This EP was the first Mayhem release without guitarist Euronymous, who was murdered in 1993. The new line-up's material displayed across the songs is notably far more technical than that of earlier incarnations of the band; apart from the intro, each track contains at least two separate sections and is played at high tempo with consistent blast beats. Track listing Personnel ;Mayhem *Sven Erik Kristiansen (Maniac) - vocals * Rune Eriksen (Blasphemer) - guitar *Jørn Stubberud (Necrobutcher) - bass guitar *Jan Axel Blomberg Jan Axel Blomberg (born 2 August 1969) is a Norwegian heavy metal drummer known professionally as Hellhammer. Deathlike Silence Productions
Deathlike Silence Productions (DSP) was a Norwegian independent record label founded in Oslo in 1987 (initially as Posercorpse Music) that focused on black metal. DSP supported the black metal revival in the early 1990s. Helvete was the headquarters of DSP. History The label was founded in 1987 by Øystein Aarseth, also known as Euronymous, who operated the label until his murder in 1993. The name was derived from the Sodom song "Deathlike Silence" (from their 1986 release ''Obsessed by Cruelty''). At first, the label mainly signed Norwegian acts, but as early as 1990 Aarseth had desired to establish a Swedish branch with Morgan Håkansson of Marduk, and towards its final years its also released an album by Japanese artist Sigh. Aarseth was considering signing Rotting Christ, Masacre (Colombia) and Hadez (Peru) before his death. Before the label's demise in 1994, it was planned to release Monumentum's debut album ''In Absentia Christi''. Darkthrone had threatened to release ...

Deathcrush
''Deathcrush'' is the debut EP and overall first commercial release by Norwegian black metal band Mayhem. It was released on 16 August 1987 by Posercorpse Music. Background Though influential to black metal, its lyrics and sound were largely influenced by thrash metal bands. After vocalist Dead joined the group, the band adopted darker lyrical topics and guitarist Euronymous (Øystein Aarseth) started rejecting most other metal bands as their lyrics turned towards "social awareness"''The True Mayhem''. In: Metalion: ''Metalion: The Slayer Mag Diaries''. Brooklyn, NY: Bazillion Points Books 2011, p. 209. and "normal" topicsKristiansen, Jon: ''Metalion: The Slayer Mag Diaries''. Brooklyn, NY: Bazillion Points Books 2011, p. 221. instead of death worship; he "wanted things to be more serious and extreme". Dead stated that the lyrics "aren't bad at all, but they are later what would become gore and trendy". The opening track "Silvester Anfang" was provided to the band by German ele ...

Bootleg Recording
A bootleg recording is an audio or video recording of a performance not officially released by the artist or under other legal authority. Making and distributing such recordings is known as ''bootlegging''. Recordings may be copied and traded among fans without financial exchange, but some bootleggers have sold recordings for profit, sometimes by adding professional-quality sound engineering and packaging to the raw material. Bootlegs usually consist of unreleased studio recordings, live performances or interviews without the quality control of official releases. The practice of releasing unauthorised performances had been established before the 20th century, but reached new popularity with Bob Dylan's ''Great White Wonder'', a compilation of studio outtakes and demos released in 1969 using low-priority pressing plants. The following year, the Rolling Stones' ''Live'r Than You'll Ever Be'', an audience recording of a late 1969 show, received a positive review in ''Rolling Ston ...

The Dawn Of The Black Hearts
''The Dawn of the Black Hearts'' (subtitled Live in Sarpsborg, Norway 28/2, 1990) is a bootleg live album by the Norwegian black metal band Mayhem. The title originates from a line of lyrics Fenriz of Darkthrone wrote for the band. Despite being a bootleg, the album is sometimes listed as one of the band's main albums, mainly due to the notoriety regarding the cover art, which is an image of the late Mayhem vocalist Per "Dead" Ohlin shortly after he committed suicide. Background The bootleg is a recording of a live show that took place on 28 February 1990 in Sarpsborg, Norway. Metalion, an early figure in the scene who helped to organise this show, claimed that there were around 300 people in attendance and the members of Darkthrone and Immortal were present as well. Cover The album is infamous and controversial for bearing a photograph of vocalist Dead (Per Yngve Ohlin), shortly after his suicide on 8 April 1991. The photograph was taken by guitarist Euronymous (Øyste ...

Live In Leipzig
''Live in Leipzig'' is a live album by the Norwegian black metal band Mayhem. It was recorded at the Eiskeller club in Leipzig, Germany on 26 November 1990 but not released until 1993. The songs performed during the concert were from the ''Pure Fucking Armageddon'' demo (1986), the '' Deathcrush'' EP (1987) and the as-yet-unrecorded album ''De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas'' (1994). It is one of the band's few official releases with Dead as vocalist, albeit posthumous. Reception AllMusic critic Steve Huey wrote, "With a shortage of official Mayhem material featuring this lassiclineup, it's a necessary item for devoted fans, even in spite of the less-than-ideal sound quality." German magazine '' Rock Hard'' included it in the list "250 Black-Metal-Alben, die man kennen sollte" ("250 Black Metal Albums You Should Know"). Track listing Personnel * Dead (Per Yngve Ohlin) – vocals * Euronymous (Øystein Aarseth) – guitar * Necrobutcher (Jørn Stubberud) – bass guitar * Hell ...
