Mayflower Pictures
Mayflower Productions was a British-based film production company of the 1930s and 1950s. Mayflower Pictures Mayflower Pictures was formed in July 1937 by German-born film producer Erich Pommer and British actor Charles Laughton. John Maxwell was on the board. They announced they would make three films, all to star Laughton – '' Vessel of Wrath'' (1938), ''St. Martin's Lane'' (1938) and '' Jamaica Inn'' (1939). The films were all made. '' Jamaica Inn'' was the last film directed by Alfred Hitchcock before he left for America and marking the star debut of Maureen O'Hara, who was put under contract to the company. In March 1939 Mayflower signed a contract with Paramount for the latter to distribute four of their films in the US. Erich Pommer
Erich Pommer (20 July 1889 – 8 May 1966) was a German-born film producer and executive. Pommer was perhaps the most powerful person in the German and European film industries in the 1920s and early 1930s. As producer, Erich Pommer was involved in the German Expressionist film movement during the silent era. As the head of production at Decla Film, Decla-Bioskop, and, from 1924 to 1926, at UFA, Pommer was responsible for many of the best known movies of the Weimar Republic such as '' The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari'' (1920), '' Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler'' (1922), ''Die Nibelungen'' (1924), ''Michael'' (1924), '' Der Letzte Mann / The Last Laugh'' (1924), ''Variety'' (1925), ''Tartuffe'' (1926), ''Manon Lescaut'' (1926), ''Faust'' (1926), ''Metropolis'' (1927) and ''The Blue Angel'' (1930). ''Truth'' was a newspaper published in Sydney, Australia. It was founded in August 1890 by William Nicholas Willis and its first editor was Adolphus Taylor. In 1891 it claimed to be "The organ of radical democracy and Australian National Independence" and advocated "a republican Commonwealth created by the will of the whole people", but from its early days it was mainly a scandal sheet. Subsequent owners included Adolphus Taylor, Paddy Crick and John Norton. ''They Who Dare'' is a 1954 British Second World War war film directed by Lewis Milestone and starring Dirk Bogarde, Denholm Elliott and Akim Tamiroff. The story is based on Operation Anglo that took place during World War II in the Dodecanese islands where special forces attempted to disrupt the Luftwaffe from threatening Allied forces in Egypt. The film was directed by Philip Leacock and based on a story by John Wooldridge, who as an RAF bomber pilot flew 108 operational sorties over Europe.Coldstream 2005, p. 181. ''So Little Time'' is a 1952 British World War II romantic drama film directed by Compton Bennett and starring Marius Goring, Maria Schell and Lucie Mannheim. The film is based on the novel ''Je ne suis pas une héroïne'' by French author Noëlle Henry. ''So Little Time'' is unusual for its time in portraying its German characters in a mainly sympathetic manner, while the Belgian Resistance characters are depicted in an aggressive, almost gangster-type light.
