Mayberry Village
Mayberry Village is an area in east central East Hartford, Connecticut. The neighborhood was originally developed in the 1940s to house the influx of people who worked at Pratt and Whitney and other defense industries in Connecticut. It is roughly bounded by Burnside Avenue to the north and Wilbur Cross Highway the south. To the east is the Hockanum River, across from which is Wickham Park, mostly in Manchester, Connecticut. History Mayberry Village was built in 1941 on what was the Cannon family farm, to house the influx of people who worked at Pratt and Whitney and other defense industries in Connecticut. The upper section of mostly multiple-unit construction was built first was the original neighborhood, bordered by Home Terrace, Highview, Edgewood and Arbutus streets, was called Laurel Park Heights, named after the trolley park that was located where Sunset Hills was developed in the late 50s. Wilbur Cross Highway
The Wilbur Cross Highway is the designation for a highway beginning at Wethersfield, running along a portion of Connecticut Route 15 and U.S. Route 5 to East Hartford, Connecticut, and then continuing northeast as a section of Interstate 84, part of which is also cosigned as U.S. Route 6. The highway ends at a junction with the tolled Massachusetts Turnpike in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. The entire route was formerly signed as Route 15. Hockanum River
The Hockanum River is a river in Connecticut. Hockanum is derived from the Native American Podunk people Algonquin language word meaning "hook-shaped", so named because of the course of the river. Wickham Park (Manchester, Connecticut)
Wickham Park is a nonprofit, private foundation in Manchester and a small part of East Hartford, Connecticut. The park contains of gardens, open fields, woodlands, ponds, picnic areas and sports facilities, among other attractions. History of the park was a gift from Clarence Horace Wickham. Another were given by Myrtle Williams in 1967, who owned land adjacent to the original property.
