Maya Celeste Laylor (born July 4, 1995) is a Canadian weightlifter from Toronto, Ontario. She won the gold medal in the women's 76 kg event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham, England. Olympic weightlifting, or Olympic-style weightlifting (officially named Weightlifting), is a sport in which athletes compete in lifting a barbell loaded with weight plates from the ground to overhead, with each athlete trying to successfully lift the heaviest weights. Athletes compete in two specific ways of lifting the barbell overhead: these are the snatch and the clean and jerk. The ''snatch'' is a wide-grip lift, in which the weighted barbell is lifted overhead in one motion. Canada competed at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. This was Canada's 22nd appearance at the Commonwealth Games, having competed at every Games since their inception in 1930. Benoît Huot was the original Chef de Mission.
