May Company Cleveland
The May Company Ohio was a chain of department stores that was based in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. History In 1899, David May, the founder of May Department Stores, acquired E. R. Hull & Dutton Co. of Cleveland on Ontario Street, renaming it May Company, Cleveland. In 1914 May added an additional landmark building on Euclid Avenue, fronting on the southeast corner of Public Square. The high-rise building stands 149 feet and contains 8 floors of space, though floors 7 and 8 were not added until 1931. In 1939 May Co. acquired majority control of another Cleveland store, William Taylor Son & Co., which maintained a separate identity until 1961. Kaufmann's
Kaufmann's was a department store that originated in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Summary The store was owned in the early 20th century by Edgar J. Kaufmann, patron of the famous Fallingwater house. In the post-war years, the store became a regional chain in the eastern United States, and was last owned by Federated Department Stores. At the height of its existence, it had some 59 stores in 5 states. Formerly part of May Department Stores prior to that company's acquisition by Federated on August 30, 2005, Kaufmann's operated as part of the Filene's organization in Boston, Massachusetts. Higbee's
Higbee's was a department store founded in 1860 in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1987, Higbee's was sold to the joint partnership of Dillard's department stores and Youngstown-based developer, Edward J. DeBartolo. The stores continued to operate under the Higbee name until 1992, when DeBartolo sold his shares to his partners and the chain was re-branded as Dillard's. Sandusky Mall is an indoor shopping center located in Perkins Township, south of Sandusky, Ohio. It is located on the east side of US 250 (Milan Road), north of I-80/I-90 (Ohio Turnpike) and SR 2. It is the only major shopping center within . The mall comprises more than 70 stores. The anchor stores are TJ Maxx, JCPenney, Books-A-Million, Dewey Furniture, Five Below, and Ross. Euclid is a city in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. It is an inner ring suburb of Cleveland. As of the 2020 census, the city had a total population of 49,692. Randall Park Mall
Randall Park Mall was a shopping mall located in the village of North Randall, Ohio, United States. It opened on August 11, 1976 on the site of what used to be the Randall Park Race Track. After over a decade of decline, it closed on March 12, 2009. The former Dillard's store and interior of the mall were demolished in 2015 to make way for an industrial park, and the remaining anchor tenants were demolished in 2017 after they all closed down. Great Northern Mall, is a single-level enclosed shopping mall in North Olmsted, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. Its anchor stores are Dick's, Dillard's, J. C. Penney, and Macy's. History Originally, a small outdoor shopping center was opened by Saul Biskind in 1958 on what was a field of strawberries. The plaza contained a Sears (west end), F. W. William Taylor & Son
The William Taylor & Son Company building is a 146-foot 9 story 1915-opened high rise apartment building in downtown Cleveland's Gateway District that had a long and fruitful former life as a major Cleveland department store. The building was originally only five floors, but when the company outgrew that floor plan, four more floors were added in 1913. The architect on the building was J. Milton Dyer who was also responsible for the Cleveland City Hall and CAC Building. Taylor's Founded as Taylor, Kilpatrick, and Company in 1870, Taylor's was part of the big six department stores ( Halle's, May's, Higbee's, Sterling-Lindner Davis, Bailey's, and Taylor's) in Cleveland.
