Max Armstrong
Max Armstrong (born June 13, 1953, Owensville, Indiana) is an American agriculture broadcaster from Chicago, Illinois. Broadcast History Armstrong's first job out of college was for the Illinois Farm Bureau as a Broadcast Editor, which was where he met Orion Samuelson. For 42 years, Max Armstrong and Orion Samuelson have partnered together, first on WGN radio, and later on the TV Show ''U.S. Farm Report'', until creating the show ''This Week in Agribusiness''. Since July 2009, Armstrong has been director of broadcasting for Farm Progress. He produces and hosts the ''Farm Progress America'' and ''Max Armstrong’s Midwest Digest'' daily radio programs. Armstrong also hosts a three-minute feature, "Farming America", on the Tribune Radio Network. From 1977 to 2009, Armstrong was the agri-business broadcaster for WGN Radio before the program transitioned to a weekly Saturday morning show and accompanying podcast entitled ''The Morning Show with Orion and Max''. Owensville, Indiana
Owensville is the third largest town and the smallest of the five larger communities in Gibson County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,330 in 2017. History Owensville was established in 1817 by Phillip Briscoe, when he filed the town plat consisting of 52 parcels and five out-parcels. A fire in 1876 destroyed many of the wood framed businesses on the eastern side of the town square. It was not until 1881 that Owensville incorporated. On March 18, 1925, the Tri-State Tornado struck just northwest of the town, killing nine people. On February 28, 2017, an EF3 wedge tornado, originating in Crossville, Illinois, passed to the south of the town, destroying or heavily damaging several structures along Indiana 65. The highway was closed for several days as power crews replaced several large power poles. Agriculture
Agriculture or farming is the practice of cultivating plants and livestock. Agriculture was the key development in the rise of sedentary human civilization, whereby farming of domesticated species created food surpluses that enabled people to live in cities. Orion Samuelson
Orion Samuelson ( ; born March 31, 1934) is a retired American broadcaster, known for his agriculture broadcasts and his ability to explain agribusiness and food production in an understandable way. He was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2003. Career Many of those living in the Midwest over the past six decades remember the big, booming voice of Orion Samuelson that explained the business of agriculture and food production in an understandable way. He was a good guy and a good listener. Samuelson was born on a dairy farm in Ontario, Wisconsin, near LaCrosse. Growing up on the farm Samuelson was expected to take over the family business, but a leg disease made it impossible to do heavy work. He considered becoming a Lutheran pastor before deciding on six months of radio school. His early work was based in Wisconsin, at WKLJ in Sparta, WHBY in Appleton, and WBAY-TV/ AM in Green Bay. RFD-TV is an American pay television channel owned by Rural Media Group, Inc. The channel features programming devoted to rural issues, concerns and interests. The channel's name is a reference to Rural Free Delivery, the name for the United States Postal Service's system of delivering mail directly to rural patrons. Production and uplinking facilities for RFD-TV are located at 49 Music Square West, Music Row in Nashville, Tennessee. RFD-TV's sister radio channel is Rural Radio on Sirius XM.
