Mauricio De La Maza-Benignos
Mauricio de la Maza-Benignos (July 27, 1970 –) is a Mexican conservationist, naturalist and zoologist. He is also a member of Mexico's National System of Researchers. In addition to his work in ichthyology, he is an agronomist and zootechnician, a jurist, an administrator, and an editor. Education He earned his bachelor's degree at the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education, a Master of Business Administration at The University of Lancaster, a Ph.D. summa cum laude, at the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, and studied Law, under a merit scholarship at the TecMilenio University. In 1994 he obtained the “Best students of Mexico Award” by the “National Permanent Committee for the Best Students of Mexico”, and in 2014 he was awarded first place in the “Dr. José Álvarez Del Villar” prize for his doctoral thesis, by the Mexican Ichthyology Society. The Autonomous University of Nuevo León ( es, Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, UANL) is a public university with seven campuses across the northern Mexican state of Nuevo León. Rio Conchos
The Río Conchos (Conchos River) is a large river in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. It joins the Río Bravo del Norte (known in the United States as the Rio Grande) at the town of Ojinaga, Chihuahua. Description The Rio Conchos is the main river in the state of Chihuahua and the Rio Grande's largest tributary. It is one of the most important river systems in all of northern Mexico. Julimes Pupfish
The Julimes pupfish (''Cyprinodon julimes'') ( es, Cachorrito de Julimes) is a species of killifish in the family Cyprinodontidae. This pupfish is Endemism, endemic to El Pandeño, a hot spring in Julimes, Chihuahua (state), Chihuahua, Mexico, and it is adapted to life in water that reaches temperatures as high as . Consequently, it has been referred to as the "hottest fish in the world", although the closely related ''Cyprinodon pachycephalus'' can occur in somewhat warmer waters. ''Cyprinodon julimes'' was scientifically described in 2009 as similar to ''Cyprinodon eximius'', but it has a bigger head, nearly one-third of its standard length. Nosferatu (fish)
''Nosferatu'' is a genus of cichlid fishes endemic to the Rio Panuco Basin and the tributaries of the adjacent Tamiahua Lagoon (to the South) and San Andrés Lagoon (to the North) in the states of Veracruz, Hidalgo, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas and Querétaro, Mexico. The genus is characterized by a prolongation in the size of the symphysial pair of teeth relative to that of the other teeth in the outer row of the upper jaw (nosferatuform teeth); breeding pigmentation that consists of darkening of ventral area extending over nostrils, opercular series, and pectoral fins; depressed dorsal fin rarely expands beyond anterior third of caudal fin; and an elongated, elastic, smooth caecum adhered to a saccular stomach. Herichthys
''Herichthys'' is a small genus of cichlid fishes. Most are endemic to Mexico, but '' H. cyanoguttatus'' is also found in southern Texas (United States), and has been introduced to central Texas and Florida. In 2015, the genus was split, and 7 species moved into ''Nosferatu''. Species There are currently 7 recognized species in this genus. Pupfish
Pupfish are a group of small killifish belonging to ten genera of the family Cyprinodontidae of ray-finned fish. Pupfish are especially noted for being found in extreme and isolated situations. They are primarily found in North America, South America, and the Caribbean region, but ''Aphanius'' species are from southwestern Asia, northern Africa, and southern Europe. As of August 2006, 120 nominal species and 9 subspecies were known. Several pupfish species are extinct and most extant species are listed. In the U.S., the most well-known pupfish species may be the Devil's Hole Desert Pupfish, native to Devil's Hole on the Nevada side of Death Valley National Park. Cichlids
Cichlids are fish from the family (biology), family Cichlidae in the order Cichliformes. Cichlids were traditionally classed in a suborder, the Labroidei, along with the wrasses (Labridae), in the order Perciformes, but molecular studies have contradicted this grouping.
