Maurice Tumarkin
Maurice Tumarkin (1900–1972) was an American menswear designer. Tumarkin joined the Charles Baker Company (later Baker Clothes Inc.) in Philadelphia, after spending three years studying medicine. After the owner died, he took control of it and for 40 years until his retirement in 1970, was president of the company, which he brought to New York as well as Philadelphia. In 1963 he won the Neiman Marcus Fashion Award, and in 1959, the Italian government awarded him an Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity to thank him for helping revive the Italian silk industry. Also in 1959, he won one of his four Caswell-Massey awards for "excellence of design." He married Carolyn Kunst and they had two children. Tumarkin died on 23 June 1972, aged 72, at the Harkness Pavilion. Neiman Marcus Fashion Award
The Neiman Marcus Award for Distinguished Service in the Field of Fashion was a yearly award created in 1938 by Carrie Marcus Neiman and Stanley Marcus. Unlike the Coty Award, it was not limited to American-based fashion designers. Recipients of the Neiman Marcus Awards include couturiers, non-American-based designers, journalists, manufacturers, and celebrities and style icons who had had a significant personal influence upon fashion such as Grace Kelly and Grace Mirabella. The award was typically presented to multiple recipients each year, rather than to a single individual, although Adrian was the sole winner in 1943, a feat repeated in 1957 by Coco Chanel. From 1969 the awards became increasingly intermittent, with ceremonies held in 1973, 1979, 1980, 1984 and 1995, the last year in which the awards were presented. Order Of The Star Of Italian Solidarity
The Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity ( it, Stella della solidarietà italiana ) was founded as a national order by the first President of the Italian Republic, Enrico De Nicola, in 1947, to recognise civilian and military expatriates or foreigners who made an outstanding contribution to the reconstruction of Italy after World War II. In 2011, the order was reformed as the Order of the Star of Italy by the 11th President, Giorgio Napolitano. The emphasis of the reformed award was shifted from post-war reconstruction to the preservation and promotion of national prestige abroad, promoting friendly relations and co-operation with other countries and ties with Italy. Presbyterian Hospital (New York City)
Presbyterian Hospital was a New York City hospital. It was founded in 1868 and began operations in 1872. It was originally located between East 70th Street and 71st Streets and Madison and Park Avenue. The hospital expanded continuously throughout the late 19th century, adding an outpatient dispensary in 1888, a school of nursing in 1892, and additional beds and services in 1892, 1893, 1904 and 1912. In 1998, Presbyterian Hospital merged with New York Hospital, creating New York Presbyterian Hospital. History Presbyterian Hospital was founded by James Lenox in 1868, and began operations in 1872, in buildings designed by Richard Morris Hunt.
