Maurice B. Rowe
Maurice Broaddus Rowe (February 27, 1850 – March 25, 1925) was an American politician from Virginia. He served in the Virginia House of Delegates. Early life Maurice Broaddus Rowe was born on February 27, 1850, in Fredericksburg, Virginia, to Almeda F. and Absalom P. Rowe. He attended public schools until 1865 and then served with his father in the quartermaster's department of the Confederate States Army in the last year of the American Civil War, Civil War. Career Rowe worked with his father in raising stock at the farm at Brompton (Fredericksburg, Virginia), Brompton. He was president of the Planters' National Bank. He also served as vice president of the Farmers' Creamery Company. He bred Jersey cattle, owned extensive farm land and had a general store in Fredericksburg. Rowe served as a captain in Company K of the 3rd Virginia Volunteer Infantry Regiment (1898), 3rd Virginia Infantry Regiment during the Spanish-American War. He was a Democrat. Virginia House Of Delegates
The Virginia House of Delegates is one of the two parts of the Virginia General Assembly, the other being the Senate of Virginia. It has 100 members elected for terms of two years; unlike most states, these elections take place during odd-numbered years. The House is presided over by the Speaker of the House, who is elected from among the House membership by the Delegates. The Speaker is usually a member of the majority party and, as Speaker, becomes the most powerful member of the House. The House shares legislative power with the Senate of Virginia, the upper house of the Virginia General Assembly. The House of Delegates is the modern-day successor to the Virginia House of Burgesses, which first met at Jamestown in 1619. The House is divided into Democratic and Republican caucuses.
