Matzpen
Matzpen ( he, מצפן, lit. 'Compass') is the name of a revolutionary socialist and anti-Zionist organisation, founded in Israel in 1962 which was active until the 1980s. Its official name was the Socialist Organisation in Israel, but it became better known as Matzpen after its monthly publication. Origins The organisation was founded by former members of the Israeli Communist Party – Maki – who opposed that party's unquestioned support for the international policies of the Soviet Union. They offered a more radical analysis of and opposition to Zionism. An early analysis of the Arab–Israeli conflict, written before they left the Communist Party, by Moshe Machover and Akiva Orr (using a pseudonym, N. Akiva Orr
Akiva "Aki" Orr ( he, עקיבא "עקי" אור, born Karl Sebastian Sonnenberg; June 19, 1931 – February 7, 2013) was an Israelis, Israeli writer and political activist. He was an outspoken critic of Zionism and supported a one-state solution to the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. After 1968 Orr was a leading advocate of radical direct democracy. Early life Orr was born in Berlin in 1931. His parents left Germany when he was three years old, in the aftermath of the Nazi Germany, Nazi rise to power, and moved to Mandatory Palestine, Palestine, then under Mandatory Palestine, British rule. Moshé Machover
Moshé Machover ( he, משה מחובר; born 1936) is a mathematician, philosopher, and socialist activist, noted for his writings against Zionism. Born to a Jewish family in Tel Aviv, then part of the British Mandate of Palestine, Machover moved to Britain in 1968 where he became a naturalised citizen. He was a founder of Matzpen, the Israeli Socialist Organisation, in 1962. Career Machover has written extensively on the conflict in the Middle East. Khamsin (magazine)
''Khamsin'' was a socialist magazine which was published first in Paris, France, and then in London, the United Kingdom, between 1975 and 1989. The title of the magazine, ''Khamsin'', was a reference to a desert wind with the same name which occurs in the Middle East. It was edited by the revolutionary socialists from the Middle East, and its subtitle was ''Journal of revolutionary socialists of the Middle-East''. History and profile The establishment of a publication by the Matzpen, an Israeli socialist and anti-Zionist organization, first discussed in a meeting of Moshé Machover, Eli Lobel, Emmanuel Farjoun, Leila Kadi and Sadik Jalal Al Azm in London in October 1974. Jabra Nicola
Jabra Nicola ( ar, جبرا نقولا, he, ג'ברא ניקולא; February 16, 1912 - December 25, 1974) was a Palestinian Arab Israeli Trotskyist leader, the author of numerous articles and pamphlets who also translated some of the classics of Marxism into Arabic. Born in Haifa, he joined the Palestine Communist Party before he turned 20, and was responsible for its publication ''al-Ittihad''. The Communist Party split along nationalist lines in 1939, and Jabra Nicola refused to join either wing, and, after being imprisoned by the British occupation from 1940–1942, was recruited to a small Trotskyist movement by Yigael Gluckstein, later better known as Tony Cliff. Ehud "Udi" Adiv ( he, אהוד "אודי" אדיב) (born June 21, 1946) is an Israeli political scientist and was a lecturer at the Open University of Israel. In his youth, he was a left-wing anti-Zionist activist who was eventually convicted of treason and membership in a hostile organization and who served over a decade in prison.
