Matti Paatelainen
Matti Paatelainen (born 17 June 1944) is a Finnish former international footballer who played as a striker. Career Paatelainen earned 47 caps for Finland, scoring eleven goals, between 1970 and 1977. He played club football at Urho, HPS, HIFK and FC Haka. He was Mestaruussarja top scorer in 1970, 1972, 1976 and 1977 He appeared in nine FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, scoring once. Äänekoski
Äänekoski () is a town in Finland. It is located in the Central Finland region, about north of Jyväskylä. The town has a population of () and covers an area of of which is water. The population density is . Neighbouring municipalities are Kannonkoski, Konnevesi, Laukaa, Saarijärvi, Uurainen, Vesanto and Viitasaari. The municipality is unilingually Finnish. The municipality of Äänekosken maalaiskunta was consolidated to Äänekoski in 1969 and the municipality of Konginkangas in 1993. The municipalities of Sumiainen and Suolahti were consolidated to Äänekoski in 2007. History Äänekoski is named after the nearby rapids. Markus Paatelainen
Markus Paatelainen (born 23 January 1983) is a retired Finnish football midfielder, who last played alongside his brother Mikko for IFK Mariehamn. He has represented Finland at under-21 level. Career Paatelainen joined Aberdeen in January 2005, but was released at the end of the season without breaking into the first team. He joined Cowdenbeath, managed by his elder brother, Mixu, in September 2005 and quickly settled in as a first team regular. In February 2006 he suffered a serious injury away to Elgin City which almost resulted in him losing his right leg after a delay in getting him to hospital. However, after two months out he returned to the side in a 2–2 draw with Queens Park and the helped Cowdenbeath to promotion as champions of the Scottish Third Division after a 2–1 win over Elgin City. Mestaruussarja Players
Mestaruussarja (Championship series) was the top division of Finnish football from 1930 to 1989. It was replaced by Veikkausliiga in 1990. In 1930 league format was used for the first time to decide the Finnish champion. Before that from 1908 to 1929 the championship was decided with cup competition. The league was dominated by clubs from Helsinki, Turku and Vyborg. The first champion was HIFK Fotboll from Helsinki. In 1935 four best clubs were from Helsinki and in 1934 and 1936 top three clubs also came from Helsinki. From 1908 to 1940 the championship went outside Helsinki on only six occasions. Kuopio was the first inland city to get into the league when Pallotoverit were promoted in 1938. During World War II years the league was sometimes cut short, abandoned or decided with cup competition instead. In 1940s TUL clubs also participated. Mikko Paatelainen (born 27 November 1980) is a Finnish former professional footballer who played as a striker. His father is retired footballer and manager Matti Paatelainen. Career Paatelainen began his career with FC Haka, moving on to AC Allianssi and FC KooTeePee before joining Scottish side Aberdeen in July 2004. After 10 months at Pittodrie, he returned to Finland without making any first team appearances for the Dons, joining Veikkausliiga side FF Jaro. In August 2005 he scored 5 goals in one game for Jaro, against his former club FC KooTeePee. In January 2006, Paatelainen joined Scottish side Cowdenbeath on loan, teaming up with his brothers Mixu (then manager) and Markus. He scored 7 goals in 9 games for Cowdenbeath who would be promoted as champions of the Scottish Third Division at the end of the season.
