Matthew Wright (basketball)
Matthew Andrew Christopher Wright (born February 7, 1991) is a Filipino-Canadian professional basketball player for Kyoto Hannaryz of the Japanese B.League. He played college basketball at St. Bonaventure University. He has since become an ABL champion, a two-time PBA All-Star, and a member of Gilas Pilipinas. In college, Wright helped lead the St. Bonaventure Bonnies to an Atlantic 10 championship and into the 2012 NCAA tournament. In his senior season, he led the team in scoring. After college, Wright started his professional career in France. He then went to play for the Westports Malaysia Dragons, with whom he won an ABL championship with. He then spent six seasons with the Phoenix Fuel Masters before joining Kyoto Hannaryz in 2022. The PBA All-Star Game is an exhibition game hosted annually by the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), matching the league's star players using various formats. It is the featured event of PBA All-Star Weekend. The All-Star game was first staged at The ULTRA on June 4, 1989. The starting lineup for each squad is selected by a fan ballot, while the reserves are chosen by a vote among the head coaches of the league's teams. If a selected player is injured and cannot participate, the league officials select a replacement. Basketball was among the sports contested at the 2021 Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam. The basketball tournament in the games featured four events: traditional 5x5 basketball and 3x3 basketball, for both men and women. The competition was held at Thanh Trì District Sporting Hall in Hanoi, Vietnam.
